I have always been on holiday with Thomson and taken advantage of the free coach transfer to our resort.
However, I am going to Corfu again this year and last time I went (2 years ago) the transfer was absolutely horrendous and made me travel sick!
This time I am thinking of getting a taxi transfer, booking it online before we go.
Does anyone have any advice? I am going in two weeks and would really value your opinions.
We are going to the Tria Adelphia Hotel in Arillas. Any idea of length of transfer, costs etc?
Never done this before but seems quite scary for some reason!!
Thanks x
We always use Holiday Taxis found here: http://www.holidaytaxis.com/?ref=afw&src=afw
They use local drivers but all the vehicles that we have ever been in, in countries such as France, Spain, Poland and Greece have been new, clean and with drivers that take care. The cars also have safety belts, a definite bonus when travelling on the twisty roads to somewhere like Arillas. You can get a quote online before deciding to book or not. They are usually highly competitive.
They wait for you at arrivals, complete with board with your name on. I noticed that when we arrived in Corful a few weeks ago, they seemed to be doing decent business because there was a man with a huge board covered in A4 pieces of paper with customers names from top to bottom.
I am not connected to the company in any way. I am just a very satisfied customer who has used them many times and never been disappointed.
I suppose the transfer to Arrilas would be in the region of an hour to an hour and a quarter although there are big roadworks in Corfu town at present which seem to be adding about half an hour to journeys.
No problem! However the Holidaytaxis company is VERY expensive in Corfu compared to local rates !
They quote £57 (about 80 euros) for the transfer from the airport to Arillas but the local charge is about 50 EUROS !!
The time by taxi is usually about 45-60 mins.
I suggest you go onto:
http://www.arillas.com/page/content/view/26/85/lang,en/. You will also find a useful Forum there for any questions.
That web-page has a form for booking the taxi through San Stefano Travel. I can recommend Noula at San Stefano Travel for the arrangements and for her other trips. Some are the same trips as Thomsons but are cheaper and better organised for local visitors.
If you want to book a taxi direct yourself we use George Rouvas from nearby Agios Georgios who can be contacted by telephone on 26630 96419 or Mobile 6944 328254 (preceded by International Code for Greece which is 0030 from UK). His charge is also 50 euros.
For some notes about Transfers by bus and taxis to the nearby resort of Agios Georgios have a look at my web-pages:
http://www.agiosgeorgios.co.uk/transport1.htm
It is just as simple as that. The taxis are modern Mercedes and the meeting arrangements the same as Magster quotes.
We usually travel as a party of five and either use two taxis or a taxi and hire car. We've always booked through http://www.agni.gr who have arranged transfers. I'm sure you'll find the boards there helpful.
We've never found a Corfiot taxi anything but smart and clean - usually a Merc - although the driving can sometimes be... ermm... "entertaining".
I don't suppose anyone knows the approximate coach transfer time to Arillas when travelling with Manos/My Travel?
It is difficult to say as I have no experience of transfers with Manos/My Travel. On average Thomsons take about 90 mins to 2 hours but transfers depend on how many customers are going to each resort. If there are enough people for one busload to Arillas and Agios Georgios the coach usually goes straight there but if they combine it with drop offs to resorts near Dassia on the east coast it takes much longer. Some companies have been known to go via Roda and Sidari on the north coast BEFORE Arillas taking 3 hours. Unfortunately you don't find out until it happens.
I suggest you check out the Forums at the Arillas.com web-site I gave you.
http://www.arillas.com/page/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,162/lang,en/
You will see a new Forum where you can post your arrival time and date details in the hope of getting someone to share a taxi .
Also if you choose the "General Information" Forum there are some posts about transfers with Manos there....not particularly good!!!
