Hi Voncat,
Normally (only my exp'n) the kitchens are pretty basic with 2 ring electic hob and kettle. You normally get all the pots and pans you need and utensils. Some aparts have toasters and or toastie / pannini maker.
We go in aparts and only really take bacon / cheese / brown sauce / salad cream (wife doesn't like mayo), all other stuff is available in supermarkets.
Not sure about Gumbet for supermarkets (last went about 10yrs ago), I do remember reading that Bodrum as a Tesco (Kipa)
Hope this helps
Voncat dont' worry - there are 2 big supermarkets not far from Dost apartments. The nearest one is the Gima (you should see it on your right as you take your transfer to Gumbet from the airport). Its just beside the big roundabout at the start of Gumbet. The Migros is also quite nearby. The Dost apartments aren't on a dolmus route, so I'd say get a taxi - you'll only be going there a couple of times during your holiday anyway, to stock your fridge. And taxis aren't expensive in Gumbet.
I do that on my first day - head to the Gima, get all my provisions there, then I only need to buy the likes of bread, veggies, fruit and water at the minimarkets in Gumbet (and there are loads of them!).
As far as the kitchen in your apartments, yeah, I'd say probably only a couple of rings to cook on, a kettle, a fridge, a sink, utensils, cutlery etc.
Take a teatowel with you, you can buy scoureres, washing up liquid etc at the supermarket.
Elaine
Thanks to all of for your replies I will go now without a worry and enjoy the whole experience.
Let us know how you get on heatwise please - we are going to Olu July 2008 and have never been this time of year before, usually holiday in May or October. Like you, I'm a bit apprehensive (especially as my 10 year old's really fair & usually ends up with a face like a radish no matter how much sun cream we put on her)!
I have another wee
Is there any launderettes in Gumbet
I would love to take clothes for a week and wash rather than enough for two and have to carry double the amount, and if anyone knows how far from the Dost Apartments(maybe a street name would be a help)and if they are any good.
Went to another while elsewhere and it was a waste of time and money the machines were not washing properly
Yvonne
Yes, there are quite a few laundry shops in Gumbet. There is one across the road from Mr Horribles bar, which is really not far from your hotel at all. They are not launderettes as such - you take your washing to them, they wash it, dry it, and iron it for you if you wish, then you go back to collect it. You are charged much less if you have a full load, rather than a few items. Take a load, drop it off on your way to the beach, then collect it on your way back .
K
Prices will probably vary from place to place though. And you'll get it for less if you tell them you don't want it ironed.
Elaine
Found the wee boy really took to the omlettes i was knocking up.
All the above stuff is light so wont make much of a dent on the baggage allowance
Don't forget that the good advice which you have beengiven for looking after your family, also applies to you.
Elaine, you are a wonderful mine of information. You have so much knowledge judging by all the people you have given advice to.
Thank you all for your help.
I don't drink so alcohol will not be a problem.
We go 16th July so not long now
Yvonne
Is there a water park in or near Gumbet and does anyone Know the price.
Thanks in adance.
Yvonne
I was wondering if anyone knew about waterparks in or near Gumbet
I have two kids 10 and 8.
One is quite bold in the water and the other not so much.
Do you know the price of entry and is there food available inside
Thanks
Yvonne
When we stayed in Bitez two years ago, they were advertising what looked like a good one on the Bodrum peninsula. All the excursion agencies had trips to it. Unfortunately we were there October half-term and it had closed for the season, much to our son's disappointment, so I can't advise on your queries. However I'm sure someone who's been will be along soon to help.
hi voncat we went to the aquapark 3 years ago at bodrumit was brill i was like a little kid again we spent all day there me our 3 boys one friend and our turkish friend some of the water features were quite good and some wre white knuckle rides[scare the pants of you] it cost £8 each entry and transfer they also have a good system for your money once inside you get a card and top it up so you can buy your food, ice creams, drink with any money over is refunded so you dont have to carry money around with you also there are lockers. the wave machine in the big pool was brill just wait for the sound of the big horn. sun longers all around for the people that dont wanna go on the rides. sure you will enjoy it.
Its called the Dedeman waterpark, and all the tour agencies in the resort sell tickets to it, including transport there and back. For about £10 per adult (and discounts for children) you will get picked up at about 10.30 ish, taken straight to the waterpark, and get picked up there again at about 5pm to be brought back to the centre of Gumbet.
I love the Dedeman waterpark - it has enough rides, pools, flumes etc to keep you entertained all day, plus plenty of parasols and the comfiest sunbeds around. Its on a hill though, which is exposed, so it feels breezy there - which means you must have the high-factor suncream on, as you don't feel yourself burning so much there. There is a restaurant there too, which is okay, and not too expensive. For your bags etc, there are personal lockers inside the park.
Elaine
I've replied on your other thread Yvonne ,
A free bus will take you to the Aqua park from Gumbet, It goes round the resort constantly.
Thank you all
