Hi - We are looking at taking a short break at either Criccieth or Porthmadog and wondered how to choose between them?
We want a nice hotel with lovely food that includes an evening meal, recommendations for a few trips (especially Portmeirion) and general suggestions please as we dont know that area of Wales at all.
They are both beautiful but so different..Portmeirion is idyllic..and Cricceth has beautiful beaches....i think Portmeirion would win by a short straw,but for different reasons...whichever you choose..have a wonderful holiday.......
I'd go Criccieth - it's handy for Portmerion but also near the Lleyn peninsula and Abersoch, Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn etc!
Both handy for touring but would say Porthmadog (Or as Mrs Nickmacuk refers to it "Paw For My Dog"

Both very nice, Criccieth is quieter, Porthmadog is a bit more lively, more shops, etc. Personally, we prefer Criccieth.
Would recommend both but would prefer Criccieth, some of the hotels have fantastic views but would not know what they are like. Went self catering in an appartment that was brill with great views. Porthmadog is certainly worth a vist but so are plenty of other places not too far away. Sure you will have a good time whichever you choose
