Unfortunately Laganas is just one of several resorts in Greece where there is almost bound to be trouble with drunken Brits having a 'good' time. Nobody goes on holiday expecting to die but it happens every year and I agree it is a tragedy. These resorts do tend to give the whole island a bad reputation so why dont the Greeks clamp down, it can be done but it all comes down to money eventually
However the Greek Authorities dont know who is going to cause trouble until they actually do something, and then its too late.Surely the idiot who caused this should feel ashamed.
Im sick of thugs like this ruining our reputation as a nation. When the majority of people are law abiding citizens, or are we a minority now?
I really feel for the family of the young man killed.
I was in Laganas 2 years ago in July with some female friends and didnt see any trouble or problems but I was expecting it.
It does put us British in a bad light which is expected as they are on holiday so just go mad. They/we are visiting another country so they should behave. (Some people just can't as they don't know how too!)
Laganas is not a bad place (but I would probably not stay in that resort as I am older now! I had a really nice time there with my friends as it was a beautiful island, and we met some great Greek people but we went out to the clubs quite a lot of the time - honestly we probably went back to our hotel by 2am the latest most nights so I bet it could have got rowdy after that) and the majority of people who visit are not that awful, its just a few that spoil it for everybody else and is this case is it the amount of alcohol that is drunk that is too blame. (Same as any other normal crime at home etc, drink, drugs etc).
, but acohol and sun to not go together, yes I feel for the parents this is a terrible tradgery to happen, We have a Greek friend who lives in Corfu and he told us a story about how one night a Greek waiter finished about 2am, got on his scooter to go home to his wife, and somebody through a large stone at him hitting him on the side of the head, he died later that night in hospital the culprit was never found but again was believed to be English
Just like that Liverpudlian in Bulgaria the other year.
That is actually the second death this month. A young girl was knocked over and killed after coming out of a bar in Kalamaki. I think that was the week before the young lad was killed.
