I'm at the Makadi palace in august(3rd year). You'll have a wonderful time there. As for the pyramids - by coach is 6 1/2 hours each way or an hour by plane. I'm intending to go to see the pyramids again this time so I'll update you with the costs. If you use a tour rep its about £170 sterling by plane. If you go into Hurghada you might get it for as little as £100. Luxor is a good option as this is only 3 1/2 to 4 hours either way (Valley of the Kings, Karnak etc). Have done that one a couple of times and its out of this world plus you get less hassle than you do in Cairo.

Managed to get the day trip by plane for 125 stirling. Less than an hour by plane so you fit much more into your time there
