we went on 2nd jan this year and everything was open, but not sure about new year, the weather was a lot hotter than we expected too which was a big bonus

New year is quite low key - special dinner dances in hotels and cakes. Being a muslim country, alcohol does not feature very prominently in public places and as it's not the muslim new year, shops are open on Jan 1 as usual. The weather can be great; I was there about 3 years ago over new yearn and really enjoyed Morocco for what it was (and is) rather than trying to transpose traditional English new year celebrations to another country.

You should have an enjoyable holiday.
