Hi,
My partner and i are trying to plan our holiday of a lifetime. We are considering the caribbean but i am not one for sitting in the sun all day every day.
what types of things to do are offered at hotels?
we are looking at couples negril or couples ocho rios and possibly one of the riu's. does anyone have any info on entertainment for any of these or entertainment in general in the caribbean.
Also my fiancee wants to swim with dolphins, as do i. is this widely available or is it only in certain parts of certain islands?
I have read reviews etc.. but can't find the answers to these questions so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Ian
I was a bit hesitant before my 1st trip to the Caribbean - we went to the RIU Cancun and loved it! We decided to try Cancun because you could walk around the resort and there was plenty to do and weren't confined to the hotel or worried about safety outside. We swam with dolpins on a small island off Cancun and it was fab! The beaches are gorgeous and feel like talc powder - if you have enough of the food in the hotel, you can also use the facilities at the RIU Caribe which is about 1/2 hour walk away
We went to Cuba last year and whilst we really enjoyed it, there wasnt much to do outside of the hotel, other than go on organised trips
Hope this is of some use, contact me if you have any queries

cheers for that. unfortunately my partner has ruled out mexico completely. she knew someone who had a bad experience in cancun and it has put her off ever since.
Why don't you consider a cruise? You can sample several of the Caribbean islands while staying onboard a 5 star floating hotel. Onboard you can do absolutely nothing or be so busy doing activities that you need 25 hrs a day. Great value for money compared to a land based holiday, and lots of fun and entertainment laid on for you.
We went to Domincan Republic Riu Merengue (2 other Riu hotels either side) which you have full use of all three (evening meals you use the restaurant of the hotel you are in). They had entertainment all day every day and night, non-stop, something for everyone round the pool, in hotel, beach etc etc, street parties. As for going outside the complex, there are plenty of organised trips. So have a look at these, well worth it. Totally recommend it.
we went to couples negril two years ago, the entertainment team keep things going all day, loads to do...here is my report..
my 1st caribbean exp was in Cuba last year.
It was beautiful!
me and my partner wasnt too sure what to expect, but we loved it!
we stayed in varadero and suprisingly we had a great time. ( i say suprisingly as it was a little quiet, and we were 20 & 21)
the beach was unbelievable, and very calm. white sands, warm sea and very peaceful. It was a private beach, so no interferrance from beggars etc.
We swam with dolphins which was GREAT and i even got to have some personal photos after the show with me getting a kiss! this was cheap 5pesos!
there are quite a few activities to do in the daytime, we done a speedboat tour, and a cruise to cayo blanco which was lovely!
in the eve we stayed in the hotel and amused ourselves but it was great for people of all ages!
On a final note, the weather..... scorching everyday bar one, when we had rain.
Any other questions, feel free to ask

you cant really go wrong in cancun.. we stopped in the Riu Cancun also.. and its close enough to all the action.. yet far enough to escape, depending on what your priorities are...
I too don't like sitting around in the sun all day so we went for a tour and stay (7 day tour/ 7 day beach) so maybe somelike that would work would work for you?
