Not a massive problem but they are about. Two weeks before we go to Turkey, we take one Vitamin B1 tablet and one garlic capsule each night and we carry this on while we're over there. It seems to keep the little buggars away (apparently they don't like the smell of garlic or yeast). We also use Avon Skin So Soft (Woodland Fresh) while we're over there. I'm usually a magnet for mozzies and always get bitten, but since we've started doing this, haven't had a bit so obviously doing something right!!
Thanks Jakki, I might try the garlic capsules again, too late for me to order the Avon stuff as Im going on Sunday - I got a rash from the B1 so Ill stay clear of that. Im truly convinced that if the mossies want you they'll have you no matter what you use
Thos little devils are clapping their hands now, saying pepsigirl is coming on Sunday and we are going to get her, wherever I go I get bitten not only in Turkey, I take garlic tablets, my showergel is lemon, apparently they don't like the smell of lemons, I have a spray I put all over my body and a plug for my bedroom still they get me, must be because I am so sweet!!!!!
You must have the same blood type as me, the little feckers will get you if they want you
love nikki xx
Just buy a bottle of Sinkov when you get there(£! a bottle!) and they wont bother you.Its what the locals use and its very effective.
This year, however, I've bought the B1 patches to try. I'm hoping they work, but if not, I've still got the Sinkov to fall back on.
Can you buy Sinkov in the chemists in the U.K. or only in Turkey?
You can only buy SinKov in Turkey. All the mini/super markets sell it.
Thanks Tishtosh I will definately be getting some on my first day there.
Pepsigirl, Get it from the large Supermarkets, It will cost you Approx 2.5 lira £1, The small supermarkets all have different prices and you could pay Double that price, Also it's a lot nicer smell than any of the Branded ones sold in the Uk, I also used Sinkov before, I changed recently to an Avon product that isnt really ment for Mossie detterent It's called Avon skin so soft it's in a blue container and is very good for your skin also, again that subject has already been discussed in this Forum, You will find Mossies congregate more where there is still Water as they breed in the water, Hope this helps.
mossies weren't a problem in resort of Turgetries in June this year - we used a plug in insect repellent that appeared to do the trick.
Thanks folks will let you know how my poor skin got on when I come back. Thanks for all the advice.
Thanks for all of that brilliant information, I will definately buy the Sinkov and give that a try - as I despair of anything else working for me. Ill report back with the number of bites I get
not alway available but it you are bad with bites I would recommend you ask for this first
Thanks Lynn I will. My bites turn into huge water blisters that I have to lance and treat with antiseptic - saves me a fortune visiting the doc when Im away.
Dublinangel we must be twins, the same thing happens to me but I buy antiseptic cream in this country and take it with me and then when I am bitten I put it on straight away, I have still got marks on my legs where I was bitten in May. I take garlic tablets daily as I am a great believer in herbal remedies and they are supposed to be good for your heart, so they don't stop the mossies biting me, I have a plug-in for my bedroom and a spray I put on when I am sunbathing. Hope you won't get too many this time. Maybe we will meet up in Gumbet at the same chemist shop who knows...ha! ha!
Heres an example: One an overnight trip to Limassol years ago myself my husband (ex now lol) and my son who was 5 at the time, slept in the same bedroom, in the morning I had 18 bites I counted every last one, neither my son or the ex had 1
Hows that for bad luck
Pepsigirl and Dublin Angel....we'll all meet up ouside the Sinkov supermarket then
