Got a chance of a relatively cheap holiday 2 October to Santorini. Any help re best resort or even accomodation recommendation would be very useful. I have heard its quite expensive when there, can anyone give a bsll park figure? The most important one being beer of course!! Local is fine though, have become accustomed to Mythos over the years.
Thanks in anticipation
Hi, just come back from Santorini, we loved it. We stayed in Perissa and were really suprised at how reasonable it was! We were paying about 2 euros for a pint and 3 for cocktails. Meals were generally very cheap, for example 2 courses (never made 3 due to portion size!) wine, coffees etc usually between 25-30 euros for 2. Places in the north of the island can be expensive but we went to Thira for the evening we had a couple of Gyros for 1.75 euros! Hope this is helpful. Any more info just ask. Anne.
Thanks Anne. Perissa the best resort then? Is there a beach (volcanic sand?) and many places to go at night? Not expecting Malia but nice to have a bit of choice? Were you hotel or Appts?
We have been to Kamari twice and have had a fab time each time, its got black volcanic shingle for a beach (very hot - wear flipflops) and loads of places to eat.
I have to second the comment about Kamari. We went early October, and although a few places were starting to shut up, many were open. At some places prices were slashed, including cocktails. We found it reasonable. The seafront area of the resort is really nice with a fair few tavernas and bars, really pleasant. Fira at sunset is really worth a visit to sit and see the sunset on the edge of the caldera (although pricey). We stayed in apartments virtually on the beach. There was plenty of accommodation right along the front and all looked good.
Hi Paul. We stayed at the Marianna apts in Perissa. Slightly up a hill but well worth it as the views were fantastic and it was so peaceful during the day. The apts were only a few minutes walk to the centre so we felt we had the best of bothworlds but there is also plenty of accommodation on the front. Plenty of bars along the front, some open till 6am if thats what you want!! The beach is black shingle and you need to be carefull getting into the sea as its quite pebbly. We visited Kamari by water taxi and its a very pretty resort but we found it much more expensive than Perissa but maybe things are a bit cheaper later in the season. Im sure you'll love it wherever you decide. Anne.
We found Kamari to be a slightly more up market resort than Perissa hence slightly more expensive. The nightlife is mostly restaurant based. Not many pubs or music bars etc. Quite a traditional resort with the rest of the island easily accessible by the local bus.
I'm off to Santorini a week tomorrow staying in Perivolos which I understand is pretty much an extension of Perissa - any helpful info or must do's? I think the bus service is supposed to be pretty good - is it easy to get around?
I'm staying at the Olympia Villa studios with Olympic Holidays so any info on these appreciated.
Thanks
Vicky
Yes Vicky, Perivolos is the continuation of Perissa. You just walk straight along the front to get to the heart of things although theres a few bars and tavernas at your end too. Either way its only a short walk so you have the best of both worlds! There is an excellent bus service all buses go to Thira (or Fira) the capital, then you get conecting buses from there. Enjoy! Wish it was us going again!! Anne.
Public transport is great in Santorini. Try and get to see the sunset at either Thira or Oia. It's a beautiful island with some dramatic scenery.
