Turkey has a huge tobacco industry...there are acres and acres of tobacco grown here..
the flowers from the tobacco plant smell lovely..they make a really nice cologne from them..i prefer it to lemon cologne...
tobacco is called tütün in Turkish..so if you see tütün cologne in the shops have a sniff.
the tobacco you have been sold will be ok..well just as carcinogenic as tobacco the world over..there is no tobacco that is healthy!!

but is he at risk of dying from anything else shirley other than what we normally assiciate with tobacco . :( im sure i read somewhere that the fake stuff was packed out with animal hair or something .

The fake stuff is nothing like the real stuff, Note the fake stuff is always very very dry, The real stuff is moist, If you want Turkish tobacco go to the Market at Mugla on a Tuesday where you can buy it for 10 lira for 1 kilogram.

I smoked turkish tobacco for a couple of years, have given up now... it was a bit strong, but OK. the odds of you getting genuine Drum from the market is remote but you will know after one puff...taste like camelshit if it's fake!

I bought some Golden Virginia a couple of years ago in the market. As soon as I opened it I knew I had made a mistake as it stunk of Fish,I smoked some and it was awful  Even the Turkish staff at the hotel wouldn't touch it,BUT the very worst stuff(GV again) I bought was in Bulgaria, which was so moist I had to leave it to dry out a bit and after I had smoked a couple of rolls I had a bad chest infection,if it doesn't smell right bin it,is the best advice I can give I'm afraid. All you non-smokers will be jumping with glee now  As you say no tobacco smells right

If you look on the inner pouch there SHOULD be a type of sticker,(I don't know how to describe it really  )It's an authenticity stamp type of thing, customs approved if it hasn't got one of them it won't be the real McCoy,if you were to look on the tobacco shelves in the shops you would see them,I think they are a yellow colour in Turkey.

Oh its definately fake which is a shame as he would probably have got the real stuff for the same money at the duty free but as my brother is not a smoker he knew no different . Hubby hasnt smoked any yet , think he,s frightened  but I have opened it and a pungent sweet smell hit he straight away. I know the smell from somewhere but cant think where ,maybe a box of liquer chocolates :? very strong but not unplesant just nothing like the smell of tobacco as we know it.
