We picked Samos because it is recommended as a nice quiet remote place to chill out with excellent walking terrain.

So currybeastie I am checking some practical things before we travel to make arrangements for elderly parents back at home - not exactly planning a trip to ravage a Greek resort. I can't say 'text or call me in an emergency' if the moby don't work can I?!? Next you will be complaining on the net about people using the net .....

Not sure why Currymonster assumes carrying a mobile makes you some sort of undesirable. We have travelled to some mountainous and remote parts of Greece where a mobile would be very useful in an emergency. As in the UK loud conversations on mobiles in public are an annoyance but in tavernas we have found its usually the Greeks themselves who are phone mad. We also like Samos even though parts are geared for tourism its generally a civilised place. I dont see people using mobiles changing the nature of the island.
