Have you thought of Center Parcs?

There is a Center Parc in Sherwood Forest near Nottingham.

What about London to see a show? Plenty that would appeal to a couple of 8 year olds. Some hotels have really good deals especially if you book this far in advance. (as long as it isn't Easter or Bank holiday). Also some really good train deals but you would need to search the internet for the best deal. Denny

Thanks for the ideas everyone, it's much appreciated, since this isn't as easy as it might seem. My friend and her daughter have already seen every show out in London and are off to centre parcs for half term.

We've already taken the girls to Carriba Creak at Alton Towers and that would probably be our only option for the spring if it's before the main park opens.

So as you can see, we are difficult to please!! It would be nice to go somewhere that neither of the girls have been, so it's a first time experience for both of them. The problem is finding somewhere other than a hotel that will do weekends only- a farm cottage with use of a pool for example would be lovely, but they don't necessarily do short breaks.

Keep the ideas coming- grateful for all flashes of inspiration

we have been to both of these sites pam and can recommend either.both do weekend breaks during school holidays as well. maybe not 2 hours away but worth a peek.
