Just got back yesterday from 2 weeks, staying in Arpora (just outside of Baga)...
Had an unbelievable time, food was excellent, everything so cheap. Bought 2 good quality tailored suits.
Restaurants in the Baga/Calangute/Candolim area I would recommend are: For Indian cuisine: O'Pescardor, East Meets West, Kebabs and Curries (do not be put off by the name), All Spice.
For continental cuisine I would recommend After Seven and Le Jardin. Exceptional service in both and food is excellent.
Only thing I didn't like about Goa was the dogs, 90% of the time they are harmless, but when we had to walk passed some first thing in the morning, they were often fighting and was quite intimidating when they spotted us. Not sure if they are a risk with rabies or not, but it was always in the mind.
Further, if you are going for the first time, and going with a tour rep, do not do any trips with the reps, use the taxi drivers, much cheaper and you can fit so much more in...
Happy holidays....
Good to hear you enjoyed it - I'll bet you are jet lagged now. Do you think you could add to the North Goa restaurant recommendation thread?
Thanks ronfur,
for your report love to read them all it gets me in the mood only 35 days i think before we go so excited, this will be our 2nd time, did you stay near baga bridge ?

Yes, very near Baga Bridge, I think, if its a new bridge? Only opened whilst we were there.
Probably preferred Candolim and Calangute to Baga, but they are all very close, Arpora is ideal place to stay, still very close, but very quiet.
Ronfur,
Thats what i was going to ask is the bridge finished !!!! thats great i was dreading in case they where still building it because of the noise, we are staying at the riverside resort hotel, is there tut tuts running from that end into baga ?
thanks for your replys

There was plenty of tuk tuks and taxis all around the area though, I didn't actually go in a tuk tuk, looked much more comfortable in a taxi!
The taxi drivers there are a great bunch of lads, did you use a different one each time or stick with just the one? We met our driver there and he has driven for us each time we have been to Goa, such a reliable guy.
Did you use the money exchange outside of the hotel, and if so how is Sammy? (I put a picture of him in the Goa album)
Have they finished building the new hotel opposite? and is it now open?
Sorry for all the questions, but you've stirred my memories just by mentioning Sun Village!
Unfortunately we were a bit naive and changed our money at the hotel, first time out there so didn't know what it was like out and about. We got 78 rupees to the pound but probably could have done a lot better elsewhere.
We didn't use the all-inclusive aspect, but it was near enough the same price as half board or self catering when we booked.
The hotel opposite is nowhere near open, but it is on the way through development, looks like it will be quite a good one.
We had a different taxi driver most times, but would say it is definitely worth just having one for the whole time. They were all good, one took us to Paniji and waited for us as they do, and took us back for 500 rupees, cheap enough for about 4 hours work!
That Hotel is taking a little while to complete, I have to say when we were there in March we thought that they might get it completed in time for this season.
If you go to Sun Village again you should go to Sammy's shop just outside the gates on the left hand side; you can get a better rate when you go into Calungute but generally he is very fair. He has telephones there to, which are extremely cheap to use.
Hi Ronfur, we are off to the Sun Village next Tuesday for 2 weeks. This is our first time to Goa and having read lots of threads on here we are really looking forward to our holiday.
Twebby, go in and see Sammy!! say Stuart & Michele say Hi and that they will see him at Christmas - have a great time
