You can normally change a holiday for a £20 pp amendment fee.

Why is it up to the school ?
I know schools and the government don't like people taking kids out of school term and they have threatened to fine parents.

If it was my holiday i would just go and never mind what the school said.

They have said that now any holidays after Jan 2008 must be covered with a letter from your employer stating why you must take holidays out of school as ours was booked in summer this year we thought he would understand but he said no we must have a letter.
Marks works holida actually falls in half term so theres no excuse really apart from we fancied 2 weeks instead of one as we wanted to so the Cairo trip and didnt fancy cramming it in a week
The head has never bothered before and has only brought this out in the last 2 weeks.

This has happened to me------booked ages ago for the 1st week of the Easter Hols [dates taken from LEA website], then the school decided to break up 4 days later, but this holiday was booked based on the original dates,
