Does anyone know if you can bring a small glass jar of marmalade/jam in hand luggage?

No glass will be allowed in hand luggage. Put it in a tupperware box, secure it with tape and wrap in a plastic bag?
I thought you probably weren't allowed glass. Will just do without and buy some in Tenerife. Thanks for your help. 
If you wrap it well, it should be ok in your checked luggage. I often take/bring bottles etc.....
