Can't talk about Hurgahda, but regarding Sharm, you need to be aware that it spreads for an area of about 40 kilometers along the coast, so you need to pick your hotel with thought if you wish to be close to nightlife.

You should probably base yourself in Namma Bay itself which is where all the bars and restaurants are if you wish to go out every night, otherwise you will be relying on cabs back and forth all the time. Cabs are cheap but it can still mount up, probably not too bad for a week but might be too much over a fortnight. Most of the hotels in NB are B & B so that people can use all the local bars and eateries.

The hotels that are further out tend to be AI's. It might be an idea to get a decent brochure like Longwoods that just does Egypt and have a good read so that you can get a feel for where everything is. I'm not particularly recommending them as I've been with Portland and Panorama, it's just their brochure has loads of hotels in it.
