Hi Chris- we have been to the Jaccarino and really liked it (no children with us!) It is a way out of Sorrento, but in a really charming village with plenty of buses, bars and restaurants. (Taxis were really expensive) The hotel is quite old fashioned as are many Italian hotels, but very friendly and the views are stunning. There are a lot of steps around the pool area, evening meals are at set times, and no organised activities for children or adults. There were a few children there, but not many. The food was usually ok in the dining room, 2 or 3 choices for each course, better for poolside lunches. There are lovely walks/ strolls in the area- a trip on the Sorrento "hop on hop off" bus which goes through Sant Agata gives an inkling of the scenery around there. (Hope it's still running!) Some of the rooms are small and pokey with no view, but if you pay for a sea view with balcony (not all have them) it will be well worth it- Vesuvius straight ahead! It's the last drop off from the airport, so the transfer is quite long.
That's all the negatives- we thought it was an ideal place to chill out for a week, and will definitely go back, but others had complaints. Hope this helps you decide.
