Also, as we are only there for 1 week, what trips would anyone recomend to see some of the area/wildlife?

Hi , i recommend the jungle book trip, its an overnight trip, but i have heard it is very good.

Also a trip to the waterfalls, very refreshing, and you get to see the monkeys.

Theres also Old Goa, but this is Churches etc.
Very good trip though, especially if your Catholic/Christian.

Theres the crocodile trip, i did this a good few years ago, but after spending all day on the boat being burnt, even though i had my dads oversized t-shirt on, and hat. I felt very ill when i get off :(
We didnt even see any crocs.
You may like this trip, but i didnt.

Thanks again Nicola, we would love the chance to see Tigers, Elephants and Monkeys, not too fussed about the crocs as we too arn't that good on boats either.

Also will try to get to Panjim as i've heard its worth a vist, althouth the main reason for going is the food!! ;)

An over night stay in a beach hut is good too, we have done this at Mandrem ( in the North ) and Palolem ( in the South )

Yummymummy, that was a shame you didn't see any crocs. We saw loads when we went on the trip. But I have to say it was a "been there, done that "experience, I enjoyed it, but wouldn't do it again.

Panjim is great, especially if your female :rofl , lots of shopping to be had.
Your son would also enjoy it, theres sports shops, nike, adidas.
Then theres the food , i think thats the main reason we go :)

Mazzy - i absolutely hated it, i got sunstroke , or is it heatstroke?

Hi Julian

Your hotel is very near to the beach and in walking distance to all the good restaurants on the main beach road, as you are only there for a week the trip I would recommend is the spice plantation where you get a tour round, have lunch and you can wash an elephant if you want, then on the way back call at old Goa and see the beautiful churches. If you do any trips don't do them with the holiday reps it's much cheaper by taxi and the main taxi stand is literally outside your hotel. Hope you enjoy Goa and the Silver Sands we have stayed there in the past and are returning for Christmas 2008.

Have a great time

Thanks Debs, that sounds good advice. As you know the area, can you tell me how much you would expect to pay for a taxi for the day, and also how far it is to walk to Canangute?

:cheers Julian

Hi Julian

If you work on £8-10 per day for a taxi, that's for a full day and taking you wherever you want to go, If you are going to one of the beaches further north or south for the day the taxi will wait for you (all day) and then bring you back, but negotiate a price before you set off. The best way to walk to calangute is on the beach and depending how fast you walk I would say about 20 minutes. We usually walk on the beach going and get a taxi back (about 100 rupees) gets too hot walking in the heat :hot

Thats a great help, thanks Debs. You know what it's like first time somewhere, if you don't know what the going price is you could get stung. :yikes

Cheers, J.
