best time for you would be Xmas/New Year or Easter(not sure when you break up though?)
As for the resort it very much depends on what you are looking for in your holiday. Busy?Quiet? Most people will say its best to go SC although there are some members who love going AI. Spend some time looking through info here- that is always one of my favourite pastimes, researching my holidays :)

Hi Fiona! I would tend towards busy, rather than quiet. SC would suit us fine as we like to try out various foods. That's why I was asking about prices. The only thing that puts me off is knowing that my main hols would be in the winter, and then I'd have 6 weeks at home in the summer. I don't think I'd be able to afford another major holiday then.

I'm afraid Goa is not a summer destination( although one or two have ventured there at that time of year!)
If you like busy you will want somewhere like Candolim or Calangute. Have a look at our resort reviews for an idea.

Helen, I always view it as guaranteeing some good weather in our miserable winter and anyway you have more chance of getting good weather at home in summer (supposedly!) so better to stay in the UK in summer rather than winter if you see what i mean.

Anyway as Goa is such good value you might be surprised and have enough cash left over for another holiday later in the year.....

habanalibre I agree with you one hundred per cent.
I cant stand the winters in the UK and this time of year really drags me down, but if you have a winter holiday in Goa to look forward to it makes the winter seem more bearable and it goes faster!
Also Goa is so cheap that people might be surprised and they will have a little left over for a summer holiday - even if its only a week in the sun.
Going away July and August doesnt hold much sparkle for me, although I must admit my OH does enjoy a summer holiday.

Can you give me an idea of prices then? We like to go SC or B & B. How much for a coffee, a pint of beer, a decent evening meal etc. We would tens towards lively rather than quiet. Which resort would you recommend. Forgot to say we are both 50 (21 on holidays). We like to spend lazy days round the pool. OH likes to go off for a wander. In the evenings we eat reasonably early around 7.30 and like to wander around popping in and out of different bars etc.

Hi Helen Any of the resorts would be fine Baga/Candolim/Calangute. Check the reviews on the hotels on here before you book tho, cos you might get a good price but some of the hotels (IMO) are well below par.
In your run of the mill restaurant a meal for two will cost approx £10, with a couple of drinks thrown in. You can go a bit more upmarket if you wish and a top of the range meal will cost about £20-£25 for two people. Large vodka, honeybee etc is about 50 rupees and a large bottle of beer I think about the same (sorry dont drink beer) - approx 80 rupees to the pound.
I wouldnt bother looking at the all inclusive option for Goa cos eating out is so cheap and there are literally hundreds of restaurants to choose from.
Anything else you want to know ask away or send me a PM :)

Thanks for that, I'll have another look. Who do you normally book with?

First Choice or Thomsons normally Helen. Thomsons have upgraded all their long hual flights so they will be on a par with first choice.
Thomas Cook are very good for prices but then you are flying with Monarch and I dont recommend that. Monarch are dreadful and cramped. You can upgrade for the extra leg room which makes the seats fine but the inflight entertainment leaves a lot to be desired.

Any questions, just ask away. Let me know how you get on and if you get booked up.
