cooperdog,

I would take US dollars. They are widely accepted and at ~1.91 / £1, they are good value at the moment.

We took peso's when we went, but as Dazbo says, because of the brilliant exchange rate it might be worth taking some dollars as well.

Hi Cooperdog  i am very interested in this as i am going in May, started buying $ then am told you are given change in pesos, which will be really confusing for me :duh

phyll,

That's perfectly normal. If you use US dollars, you normally receive change in local currency. Most destinations around the world do that. I'm being greedy and waiting while the US $ hits 2.0 / £1. I just hope it's sometime in the next 3-4 weeks before my jolly to Antigua.

We always take dollars to Mexico - most items tourists would purchase are priced in US dollars. It is a bit strange getting change in pesos but we use this change as tips at our hotel.

If it's not included with your package, don't forget to keep back the departure tax in US dollars to pay at the airport when you leave Mexico, pesos are not accepted.
