Unlike perhaps Cuba where certain items are difficult to come by, it may be best to tip maids in Barbados dollars.

If you've been to the hotel before and know the maids from previous visits, perhaps items that are only available in the UK are very much welcomed.

Agree there -- we took allsorts of stuff to Cuba and Egypt but in Barbados we always leave dollars
