The average is around 73 to 87F with occasional tropical showers, usually during the night.

I've always found Nov/Dec the best time to go, its so much less humid then. Please don't worry about the showers, even if you do get some during the day they are usually heavy but short and the rain is so warm, twenty minutes or so after it stops you wouldn't know it had rained. The sun shines most of the time but watch out for burning even if its overcast for short spells.

Punta Cana is lovely, I wish I was there now.

I agree with silverpixie... last week in nov/first week in dec is the time that we go to the caribbean, makes a great change from the cold weather at home... just remember to pack something warm in your hand luggage for when you arrive back in the UK..
