Thanks Sally
Have a great time, from the reviews I have seen it sounds a great place
Visited there in July 2003 and had a great time. One of the best hotels I've stayed in the Carribean with enough going on for all. Loved walking to the pool through the jungle so away from the beach and pools is no great hardship.
have booked this hotel for 22 april next year for me and hubbie, does anyone know if they have superior oceanside rooms that you can upgrade to once in resort? as it is well after easter and u.s spring break I'm hoping to get a room facing the sea, on the iberostar website there is no mention of anything other than standard rooms but on trip advisor someone has said that they got a (free) upgrade to a junior suite virtually on the beach, which looked lovely. i know that on trip advisor people can be 'economical' with the truth , shall we say but as they had photos of the room it seemed true enough, it just seemed odd that there are no such rooms available on the ib website.
We got back from the Tucan in April and it is an absolutely wonderful hotel. We just had a standard room and although booked into the Tucan with First Choice we weren't happy with our room allocation and were changed without a problem to a room on the Quetzal side. The two hotels are one and the same and it doesn't matter which you are staying in, all the facilities are shared.
We had two adults and two kids in a standard room and it was fine- two double beds. We certainly didn't feel like we were falling over each other. The only way to get a proper sea view would be to upgrade, but it does seem to be a very popular hotel, so I guess being able to do it would be down to luck on the day. We were in room 2125, first floor near the pool and you could look across the dive building and over the pool to the sea- it was lovely. Also only a stones throw to put our towels out in the morning!! From what I've read upgrades seem to go to returning guests, but I know of people who have requested a specific standard room by emailing the hotel and got their request.
The reception staff are very helpful, so if you don't get sorted before you go, see what you can do when you get there.
Have fun though, you won't be disappointed
Pam
Have a wonderful wedding and dont foregt to give us a run down when you get back. A few pics would be lovley too. We were due to mayy in Feb of this year at the toucan but direct holidays ruined our wedding plans and eventually could not offer us the hotel so we cancelled.
I wish now I had gone with another travel agent.
I hope you have a wonderful day and I am sure Mariella won't let you down.
Best Wishes

hi just booked to got to the Ibrostar Tucan Mexico sept 2008 what is the weather like in sept and what are your opinions on the hotel?
We have returned from the Iberostar Tucan 2 weeks ago. All i can say is, that it was the best holiday i have ever had. We booked our holiday after reading the reviews on this site and also trip adviser, where there are loads of photographs. The hotel is placed in a perfect position which enables you to walk into Playa del Carmen, you can catch the ferry over to Cozamel.and get a direct bus into Cancun, which is about 50 mins away. You are also in a good position for all the excursions, which enables you to do most of them DIY. The hotel cannot be faulted in my opinion, so much so, that i have considered cancelling my new year cruise and going back to mexico.
I am looking to book this hotel for Sept 07, and i am looking for a travel agents that will give us the full package.
Does anybody know of any that do this resort?
Thanks
First Choice or Eclipse Direct for the Tucan and I believe Thomas Cook do the Quetzal, which is it's other half. Essentially it's the same hotel . We booked the Tucan with FC, but ended up in the Quetzal when we changed rooms. So if you book either you will be more than happy
Thanks very much x
Could any one please tell me if the iberostar toucan mexico has an ironingboard/iron in there rooms.
I posted this question on tripadvisor just a couple of days ago and someone responded saying that there are irons in the rooms.
