Luxor, great place to visit to see countless wonders, Jazz, and may is a great time to go! Plenty of companies who you can get to show you the sights, (dont use the big tour operators, they just rip you off) and the weather will be fabulous but not too hot to bear.
There are many forum members who will answer any questions you may have regarding potential hotels etc.

Ok, thanks. Just need a hotel now. Prefably one that has a bedroom and a lounge for my daughter to sleep in. Any ideas?? Jazz

We went to the Sheraton Luxor about four years ago, so our daughter would be about 12/13, and loved it. We got one of the bungalows which was really spacious and didnt pay any extra. We did a three day optional trip on the Nile via Thomsons which then cost around £150 and this included all entrance fees to Valley of the Kings and all the sights between Luxor and Aswaan plus the sound and light show at Karnak. It also included full board on the Commodore which was brilliant! Thoroughly recommend this route.

We stated at the sofitel karnack last year in Luxor for just one night as we were travelling to Hurghada, but the hotel was really lovely and the pool looks on to the river nile, I see you are looking at the mecure we were there for just half a day, the food was really lovely but the pool is not as nice as the karnack and we prefered the look of the sofitel karnack, If you do stay in the Mercure try to get a room at the front overlooking the nile, the Mercure is in walking distance of the Luxor temple and its really cheap to go in and you wouldnt need a guide, the karnack temple is in the other direction. Also the luxor museum is in walking distance. Hope this helps
