I go to Turkey in May every year and the buggers always seem to find me, I put a few drops of lemon grass in my suntan lotion and after sun which is guaranteed to keep them away

Hi Mandrob,

I've never had a problem with mossie's in Turkey - and I've spent a total of about 2 years out there. I think I may have been bitten once or twice - but I do know some people seem to attract them more than others.

They do actually spray the resorts on a regular basis which does seem to keep the mossie numbers down, and as you say, eating garlic and lemon certainly seem to put them off.

As they only bite in the evening it's a good idea to use Autan (?) mossie repellent from Boots. Just spray a little on your calves and arms and that always seems to do the trick!

Good luck!

I was eaten alive in Ovacik (just near Olu Deniz) in May last year. I tried all sorts of repellents too.

we go in june and september, there is a truck that drives round at night leaving clouds of diesel type smoke in the air , its some kind of mozzy killer, ive been lucky never got bitten once but my hubby gets eaten alive, we use a mozzy plug in perminantly in our appartment, also found that avon skin so soft dry oil spray applied after your shower works very well, i personally dont like the lingering smell off deet, in most mozzy repellent sfuff,

Avon Skin So Soft seems to work for some and not for others, no one else in my party got bitten and I got dozens. I was bathing in the bloody stuff too!

We were in Olu for the same time last year. I always get eaten alive, but for the first few days of the first week there was none, but then we got invaded. Even my DS who never gets attacked was covered in them from around the tips of his ears and his legs. Even super strength spray wasnt doing its job as it should . . .but it did tend to be in the early evening, although we did have odd weather so dont know if that made a difference. We are heading back there in August for 2 weeks this year . . .hoping not to still have the marks from last year LOL

But every bite was worth it . . .the holiday was fab!

I have never been bitten in Icmeler, but got a really bad one 2 years ago in Olu Deniz, my arm swelled to twice it's normal size, but got some tablets and cream from the pharmacy which helped a lot. Thought I was lucky last year, sprayed myself every day and one came up on the plane on the way home :)
