It's difficult to put an exact cost on this as I usually use our company's courier service when I land. However, I wouldn't expect to pay any more than 50 LE for a one way journey. The driver will probably try and get as much as 200 LE for the trip, but you have to be firm with them.

Set the price before you get in the car and everyone will be happy.

PS This is the price for a black and white. I think there are yellow cabs and these run on meters only.

Thanks for the info. Its really helpful. I emailed the hotel we're staying at and for them to pick us up seemed to be 50 US dollars, which seemed incredibly steep.

You can bet that half of that amount will go to the hotel itself, madbot. You will do far better to negotiate with a driver at the airport. Act as if you know exactly what the price should be and refuse to budge. Also, dont forget to double check that any change you are given is correct!

Careful too - as we negotiated a fare for two taxis TO the airport before we got into them at the bus station - then when arrived at the airport the drivers tried to more than double the agreed fare and were trying to hold our bags "hostage" - until I threatened them with the tourist police that is. Stand your ground!!

Just want to thank everyone who replied. We havent agreed with the hotel to pick us up as the price is extortionate. Will definately get a taxi at the airport to get the best deal.
