Get into a hot bath/shower (as warm as you can stand! - This should open your pores), then exfoliate, (with lemon juice as well for better results!) - If you have no exfoliater ,-granulated sugar will work as well!

As a fake tan disaster vetrin, I can recommend Veet hair remover over anything.

I had this crisis about 2 years ago on this very forum! (only it was on the soles of my feet.) I'd love to try to dig the post out..

:rofl

Go for a swim in the local chlorinated swimming pool. You'll have to run from changing rooms to the water so nobody can see the mess you are in but I found (accidentally) that it stripped my fake tan.

Yes, this seems to work... no matter how carefully and how much time/money you spend on fake tan before going on holiday, after the first day in the hotel swimming pool you're as white as everyone else on day one! :-?
I have used a pumice stone to scrub away orange heels/knees/elbows - also works well when you had the fake tan for a few days and your skin starts to develop that attractive giraffe pattern...

It smells like digestive biscuits soaked in vinegar :yuck The Johnsons Holiday Skin stuff and the Dove one smell nice when you put them on, but after a few hours, you start to get that "whiff".

I think it smells like beef monster munch crisps :rofl Has faded a little today but hope it all goes by the weekend as we are expecting a heat wave (ill believe it when I see it!)

Not my area of expertise but my wife is a Beauty Therapist and she says before applying fake tan, always exfoliate first to remove dead skin cells, then moisturise your skin, especially on the rougher skin parts of your body like elbows, knees and ankles as these are the parts that absorb the fake tan more and will go much darker and patchy otherwise. When applying fake tan to the insides of your arms, mix 50% fake tan and 50% moisturiser so that the tan is not too dark and more natural - She reckons she can usually tell a fake tan by the fact that the insides of the forearms are unnaturally darkly tanned - She also says that it is better to apply more than one thin coat over a couple of days than one thick coat in one go.

To remove, she agrees with bellyballyboo's advice.
