the nearest beach is at Laki [latchi as the English call it] from memory its mainly shingle with several bars and fish restraints
Pretty quick there wizard, thanks for that.
'half way house' (a wooden hut on the right hand side of the road) they do a great pork chop and salad lunch, excellent, do not miss this..You will have a lovely time in this area although quiet, it is fast changing though, so go now is my advice a couple of years and my guess is it will change for the worse unfortunately..
Polis town...
Polis and Latchi as everyone here calls them are lovely, although there is a huge building boom going on there unfortunately, it is not the same now, but still a favourite of many of us locals, I go to Latchi harbour for Sunday lunch when we can, there are several restaurants and tavernas along the harbour wall, many Cypriots also use it for there Sunday lunch, Polis is a small town and has a nice pleasant cafe bars and restaurants, great place in summer for an ice cold beer or real orange juice with a dash of vodka, just sit there and watch the world go by! the beaches as posted are mixed shingle and sand, go further east a few kilometers towards Argaka and you will have a sandy beach all to yourselves, while there have lunch at the Polis town...

Thanks for that Jim & Mark, looking forward to it, it sounds just like what we are looking for, hopefully get a few dives in whilst over there (Zenobia).
The Zenobia is at the opposite end of the island, about a 3 hour drive.
We really enjoyed Polis, especially the centre bars, nice to chill with a snack and read the papers there. Polis is far suprior to Protaras, its not the chicken and chips culture, you can get some good meals there. Choix Choix in the centre was top notch, and well recomneded too.
We used the Polis beach lots, just adjacent to the camp site many times, quiet, with small bar there, you can walk along a new boardwalk to Laachi about one mile away.
Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for that Steve, also thanks Mark, I knew it was the other side of the Island but did not know it was 3 hours drive, I looked on the website and found a dive centre near Polis and they do trips to the Zenobia once a week its a long trip but supposed to be worthwhile.
Amber and Karl here. We have been to Polis many times and agree with Jimbox that if you go further east you will have amazing beaches to yourself, we just pull off the road and walk down to the beach, it's truly amazing. If you go further east up to Kato Pyrgos you will get the taste of Cyprus for sure. We are planning to do some diving this year, Karl has worked in the North Sea for many years as a diver and I am planning to get my Padi cert. this year,
Although the beaches can be quite 'shingly' when you go in further it is very sandy, we are sure you will enjoy them. Go into Polis, have a drink you can just chill out and enjoy the atmosphere. Hope you have a great holiday. Amber and Karl
Thanks for the info, we will hire a car and go looking for these nice beaches. Good look with the PADI course iam sure you will enjoy it and when you are qualified you must go to the Red sea. There are qiute a few hotels over there that have there own house reefs, the sea life is fantastic. Iam lucky this year I will be going to Egypt in April and again in June :tup, so I wont be doing much diving when we go to Cyprus (wifes not a diver) . I would like to dive the Zenobia whilst there even though its the other side of the island, there is a dive center near Polis that do trips once a week its just an early start.
Cheers, Colin
Myself and and son and daughter have dived the Zenobia, we went with Akamas divers, it's a small husband and wife setup (Paul & Lynn). You get a great personnal touch, far better than being 1 of a group of 8 or so. Here's a link to Paul's website. If you do book up you will not be disappointed with the Zenobia....fantastic dive!!! Tell Paul Jim from Coral Bay/S.Wales sends his regards.
Jim
OOOPS forgot the link..................
Thanks for the link, sounds good, I prefer to use a dive center that has been recommended than just take pot luck, also diving in small groups is much better.
As also evident from the replies, we as people have different tastes. Some like long strechy pebble beaches, some congested white sand ones, etc, etc. I am a fan of the white golden variety. You even get THAT in Akamas (Blue lagoon) but its difficult to get to.
If you are into walking, Akamas peninsula is great, and so is Paphos forest which is not far.
If you want extensive info including photos about beaches in the area, message me and I will send you the address.
Take care
