best to stick with veg that has been cooked. As for ice- I didn't have it in my drinks unless it was made from bottled water. We erred on the safe side as we were rarely in a place for more than a day and delhi belly would have ruined the tour.

I go with Fiona's advice. Avoid all salad items, and ice, unless you're positive it's made from bottled water (with unbroken seals). Might sound a bit over zealous, but recently had six weeks suffering from a water-borne parasite, and it's no joke. Buy bottled water to brush your teeth with also. I've learned to drink refrigerated drinks only, or bear them warm if that's not available!

it also depends on what sort of hotel you are staying in. i stayed in india in january and never had a problem but i was in 5 star delux hotels and they were really nice ones
