just read in today's papers that the whole island of Malta has sponsored Sheff Utd...don't know who or what has come up with the £ or even what form it will take...but I am intrigued.
Is this true? Does anyone know any more about it? What form does it take?
From my point of view, Sheff U are the team my uncles followed and they play just up the road..and a lad from the village, my son's friend Adam plays for them...so it is great news. Should I get a signed shirt and take it over to Malta next time we go?
Hi Val, yes I read that in yesterdays Times of Malta, but it isn't the whole country that is sponsoring the blades, it is the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) the government funded body responsible for promoting tourism to the Islands, it is a very ambitious and forward thinking move by the MTA and could well prove to be a masterstroke of marketing on their part, hope this clarifies things for you.

I think I will get a signed shirt sorted. I know how fanatical the Maltese and Gozitans are about their football.
I reckon it wold be a good gift to give someone next time we go over.

I'd have thought that if MTA sponsers a city's football team then the airport that serves that city would at least have an airline that flew to Malta! or is it just me 
There used to be flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Luqa Airport every tuesday morning but then these stopped and I have never been able to find out why...it is a right pain in the bum!
might be because theyve signed a maltese goalie.
