Hi, I am off to Florida on Saturday this is our 5th time.....we love it. Dont be scared to booked everything independently. Our flights were booked via Broadway Travel and our hotels direct in Florida...just use Trip Advisor to see what us Brits think of the hotel thats a great base to start looking.
We travel in Florida starting at Orlando going to Naples, Palm Beach, Miami it is so easy to drive out there...beware the car hire company will always try and upgrade you at what they call a great rate. Again we booked our car direct and it was half the price as a fly drive offer.
Money, take travellers cheques as everyone uses them, can use in shops and restaurants and will give you change..if you are thinking of taking a credit card Nationwide are doing a great offer do not charge you for using your card abroad and their US rate is normally higher ie. $1.97-$2.00 to the £1 at the moment.
If you need any other advise please just ask and I will try my best to help.
We went to Florida last year for 3 weeks. We booked with Flyglobespan from Glasgow. Prices reasonable but having read various forums from last year service could be dodgy. However, we were lucky and flight was great. We spent the first week at Orlando, then onto West Palm beach and the last week at Siesta Key on the Gulf Coast. We have been to siesta key several times and have never been disappointed. West Palm not so good especially with kids. We book everything on the internet flights, accomodation, car, attraction tickets. On some British sites you can only get 7 day passes for tickets but we booked with an American site and you can get 1,2, 3 day passes or whatever. It is just as cheap to rent a villa than a hotel. Ours was in Davenport 4 bedroom, games room, pool £415 per week. Absolute luxury. Hope this helps.

Glad you're sorted!
The villa was great, it was on the 27 so a little way out but very close to a good supermarket. The car hire firm didn't have an 8 seat van so gave us a 12 seat minibus at no extra. The flights were ok (food was pants!), a bit of a delay coming home but that was a safety issue.
We booked the Disney 14 day ultimate tickets thru attractions tickets direct as they had best deal which included kids eat free cards for the 3 younger ones.
All in all a fantastic holiday, looking forward to booking again for 2010 and will go straight to Ocean Florida again
Did the 12 seater van have a big enough boot for 8 people's luggage? I take it you had a case each?

I also got my figures wrong on my original post the holiday cost was £4400 for the 8 of us - sorry!
Booked a package through Airtours at a local travel agent we usually use - flying from Manchester and staying at The Fountains Resort on I Drive, 3 miles south of Seaworld. For 3 of us me, wife and 10 year old daughter we got it down to £2750 - Airtours were offing 1st child free for the whole of the Summer 09!! Not sure if it's still on though.
Booked car separately through floridahire.com - 2 door compact with free upgrade to intermediate from Budget for £202!!!
Made a slight boo boo though - considered going for 3 weeks as it was only going to be an extra £200 for all of us but didn't book it - decided this week to see about the extra week and there's no accomodation available
I am new to this site, and was looking at booking embassy suites or quality suites on I Drive for next year. Could anyone tell me if they have heard of or booked with a travel company called Broadway Travel. There prices are coming out about £400 cheaper then Eclipse, and I don't know if to book with them.
Thanks
We are looking at going to florida next year, but we can't decide on hotel. We are looking at Wyndham, quality suites and Embassy suites. Can anyone reccomend any of these.
Thanks
ive been to florida twice in 2005 & 2007 and booked both holidays with travel city direct, we went as a family of 2 adults and 2 children which were at the ages of 16 and 15. we got everything for 2800 including both the disney tickets and the universal tickets. If you ring the call centre directly they should be able to book you holiday for 3 weeks but on the their website you can only book for 14 days. good luck with finding your perfect holiday.
