I'm thinking of getting away this half term (24th Oct)for a week with my wife &two girls(12&9)I want somewhere still fairly warm with plenty of things to do.
Any suggestions please.
Well, since you posted this in the Turkey Discussion Forum, I guess you have considered Turkey?
The 24th of October is pretty late for Turkey as most barstaff/restaurant staff leave home, yet I prefer October in Turkey (Marmaris, my usual resort) as it is warm, yet not excedingly hot as during the months of July-August it can reach 42-52 degrees, which is too hot, perhaps aswell for your 9 year old.
The good thing about Turkey (Marmaris) in October is that the tempreture is about 24 degrees, which is usually the average heat of places like Spain in Summer months. The 24th is almost 4 weeks away, so I would reccomend, even if you decide not to travel to Turkey, to wait until after it is 4 weeks away to catch a last minute deal. You have to be very careful about the airlines you choose, as if you watch the news you will notice the amounts of airlines going bankrupt, and if your going to fly to Spain, PLEASE make sure you do not fly by Spanair, romour goes, there next to bust!
In October months kids can get pretty restless, as most resorts are quiet and have little going on, ensure you select a hotel which entertains them so you and your wife do not need to take care of that.
In conclusion, I reccomend Marmaris, but thats completly biast, and I am not afraid to admit that
But make sure you pick somewhere that has plenty for kids to do as its a nightmare during the late months to entertain them.
I would also recomend marmaris... we go every october, although we normally go begining/middle of the month, ive never been late october so couldnt really say what its like for weather and entertainment!
I suspect that at such short notice, you will be lucky to find flights on the right day. Therefore, it is probably not a question of people making recommendations, but of you searching to see what, if anything, is available. Half-terms always get very booked up a long way in advance at the best of times, but with the recent demise of XL, all the people who were booked with them will have snapped up what remained. Sorry to sound so negative - I do hope you find something. Everywhere in the Med will be winding down for the end of the season and the weather will be a matter of luck. Try the Canaries for year-round sun and activity.
Most resorts still have plenty of restaurants and bars open, but they will be winding down for the winter.
