Hi there, just wondered if anyone could help me. Looking to spend 3 days in London in October half term. Have done the usual searching for the best accommodation (2 adults and 2 children). Travelodge is coming out the cheapest £260 excluding breakfast. Has anyone had any recent good/bad experiences and which location is the best for sightseeing etc. Premier Inn is more expensive £300+ also from pictures on their website it looks like the childrens beds are on the floor
With many thanks
The choice of area depends a bit on where you're coming from (i.e. if by train, which terminus will you be travelling to/from?) and what sort of things you want to visit.
Last time we went to London, the tube fares were very high, so check out the location of that Premier inn before you choose the travelodge, with regard to travel expenses. that £40 could soon go on tube fares with 4 of you. (yes I know you can get travel cards).
I think that we have been able to leave luggage at premier inn on our last day, but you can't at a travelodge, and have to check your cases in at the station unless you want to lug them around all day. I'm not sure if premier inns still have this facility, but it is another thing worth checking re expense and hassle factor.
Travelodge have gone downhill IMO since they started contracting everything out. I prefer to pay a bit more and go to PTI personally. I've stopped writing letters of complaint to Travelodge now and book PTI instead.
Whenever we have stayed in a travelodge the 2nd childs'bed is a trundle type that is stored under the sofa bed.Last time we stayed at Travelodge we arrived after midnight,as arranged because of an evening flight, there was no room ready for us,the first room offered had no bulb in the bathroom,no loo roll,no bedding for the sofa bed and the last occupants nightie hanging on the bathroom door. The poor lad on night shift was so embarrassed. We were given another room that wasn't made up either,it wasn't his fault so we complained when we got home.Eventually we got an apology. If I were you I'd pay the extra and hope for better service,we are staying in Premier Inn next month, same time as you.
From recent experience, I can only comment that I now prefer PTI over Travelodge every time.
and I use Holiday Inn for the reason stated by the others
Just a thought,we've got 2 rooms,2 nights PTI with breakfasts,2day passes to Thorpe Park, for 2 adults and 2 15yr olds for £312,think we've got a bargain, you could try the Heathrow one and see if they have any deals to match that.It is where we are going.
There are family rooms available for between £195 And £255 there half term week,no breakfasts, though,it must be that the deal we have is through Thorpe Park.
Thank you all so much for your replies I think the general opinion is that PTI is definately the better of the two. We shall be arriving in Marylebone Station so I shall look for the best deals around that area. My eldest boy who is 8 is so looking forward to visiting London and has already said that one of the days will be spent in the Natural History Museum I would much prefer spending my money in Oxford Street, but I suppose it is a wonderful experience for children
With thanks again
It is a doddle to get anywhere in London from there, in fact we headed to the Science Museum and it only took one change of train and about 20mins in total. Highly recommended and at that price, unbeatable value in London. Booked direct through the HI Express website.
Finally to answer your question, definitely PI over a Travelodge but cost should play a part in any decision.
We booked the Travelodge Covent garden and it was fine. Only minutes from the tube and from Covent Garden itself, clean, tv if needed. No phone in the room but most people have mobiles nowadays anyway. Drink making facilities in the room with free 'top ups', if needed, from either reception or the cafe. Staff were very friendly.
We travelled with National Express and got return travel for £16.00 each.
We booked the breakfast deal online - about £6.50 each - and it was an all you can eat hot / cold buffet. There was a bar / cafe at the hotel, open from 5pm each evening but we ate out each night except Sunday because come Sunday evening, we had done so much walking, our legs were seizing up!
There are roadworks in the area at the moment but the hotel was still accessible.
We managed to book two nights on the saver rates and were satisfied. ( would have been nice if we could have stayed at the Royal Horseguards, like last time but that was way too expensive this time round )
Have to say, we had a lovely time and as a bonus, the weather was nice. Would consider returning to the same Travelodge again.
Have stayed at Premier Inn County Hall a couple of years ago and that was good too but the price was much more expensive for our recent stay and we decided that we would put the money saved by staying at Travelodge to good use and buy ourselves some treats in London
