Datca

Datca is a fabulous destination, off the beaten track. There are a few travel companies that have been offering it for some time. Sunsail have had a club there for many years and was how I discovered it about 15 years ago. There are a few small upmarket companies that go there too. I spend a lot of time there and just can't think where this Asiyana hotel is though. Anyway I can thoroughly recommend the resort but it's not for you if you are keen on noisy bars, English food and loud night clubs. You won't find it there.

George Kalodoukas has a couple of Datça hotels in his 2009 brochure:

HERE

Datça has the added advantage of being a mere 4 miles across the channel from Symi, of course.

That's interesting, the Uslu is a pleasant 3 star hotel right by the beach. It's not luxurious but in a good position. The other is a very luxurious 5 star type place - quite small but the last word in luxury and elegance. It is a restored ottoman mansion. It is away from the beach though and you would be dependant on car hire or the shuttle service to go anywhere. Yep Symi is nearby and there is a weekly ferry although only one each way. You can also get there from Bodrum by ferry - it takes 2 hours.

do you know where the new hotel is located?
In Datca center?

I'm pretty sure I know where most of the hotels are and I haven't heard of that one neither is it showing up on any search. Also I can't see it on the web site mentioned. I suppose it could be a new hotel or maybe an old one with a name change. There was a new one going up along the sea front although far from finished when I visited last month. I know several hotels are trying hard to entice some of the bigger package tour companies back in, there used to be UK package tours there many years ago but a couple of unfortunate incidents caused them to pull out. There have been many changes to Datca recently to make it attractive to tour operators, in particular the new road from the airport cutting transfer times down to just over 2 hours or 2 hours if you have a manic driver. I have mixed feelings about it as I love the remote quiet atmosphere and the very Turkish feel about the place although I know many of the businesses would welcome more visitors.

No it is not on the website yet. They sent me a mailing which advertised it with a photo of a pool. I have ordered the 2009 brochure and there may be more info when it arrives. If so, I will post it here.

Aha that explains the mystery. I wonder if it's the new hotel I saw being built by the promenade near my house? It looks as though it will be very smart and they were finishing the pool while I was there. Do you go to Datca often?

No never been, but interested in going. Photo of pool looks like it is next to the sea, so maybe it is the new one you have seen. Would also explain why no photo of actual hotel, if it is a building site!

I just posted about it because people have enquired on here in the past about getting away from the mass tourism places, but with package, so thought someone might be interested.

Datca is a lovely resort - we've now made two visits there, it is very uncommercialised and simple. It seems more of a working town than some resorts.
The harbour is a good place to people watch in the evening in summer.
The journey there is also stunning, particularly where you have the Aegean on one side and the Med on the other, the landscape is quite different from adjacent areas, as you head down the peninsula.
For anyone staying in the Marmaris/Icmeler/Turunc area also makes a brilliant trip out - if you don't have a hire car, easy to get to by bus ideally staying overnight.

I have had another thought about that Asiyana hotel - it might actually be the Asina Hotel. It's out of town a bit and so you might want a car if you stayed there. I haven't visited but it looks nice, on a cliff overlooking the sea.

I liked Datca a lot. We went there on a gulet cruise. Only had the one night but we will be back in May on another gulet. We had a day in Simi as well - that was good.

good to see there are more and more people who adore datca.

I especially like the part between datca city and knidos, with its beautiful beaches, nice villages and friendly people. Last year we visited an new oliveoil factory in Sindikoy and the people where so friendly and relaxed.

In februari I will go back again to finish the restoration of our old oilve mill. Curious how datca will be in februari. I saw pictures of datca in januari, all almond trees had flowers and this looks beautiful

I was there last February. We were lucky as there was no rain (it often rains a lot then). The sun was bright but the wind was very cold. At night it was VERY cold, it was also difficult to find any restaurants with food. Lots were open for drinks but had very little on the menu. The spring flowers were just coming and the almond blossom was beautiful. I took the opportunity to walk a lot and see some beautiful views. It's too hot in the summer to walk far.

hmmmm....I'm planning to go in februari also to datca to restore our olive oil factory.
Hopefully it will be reasonable wheather, but I will think of it packing my suitecase ;-)

Well the brochure arrived and JMK was right, the hotel is actually the Asina Hotel and not 'Asiyana' as on the mailing I had! It looks lovely. A' luxurious hideaway', 'beautifully appointed boutique hotel', but on a hill with a steep walk downhill and unsuitable for those with walking difficulties. It is offered b&b and is not cheap. Up to £1059 for 2 weeks in July/ August inc flights and transfers. Anyway, just thought I would mention it in case it is of interest to anyone! Could be nice for a honeymoon.

Thanks mehmeh1 that has solved the mystery then. I haven't been in that hotel but know where it is. I'm told it is tastefully decorated and very nice. The only problem I would have with it is the distance to the harbour, town and beaches. It is quite a long walk and I believe a taxi fare to the harbour where I would want to go for restaurants and a bit of life is around 10 lira each way. I have somewhere to stay in Datca but this summer I arranged accommodation, transfers and flights for friends. Their very nice hotel with pool by the beach and not far from the harbour was about £50 a night for a double room with breakfast. Transfers from airport were £140 return. Flights for next summer are coming up around £350. So if you are adventurous enough to book it all yourself it would be around £1540 for 2 - so £770 each for a similar holiday. Datca does tend to be more expensive than some other resorts but it is a very beautiful place and quite different to most of the well known resorts.
