We are going to Cesme the 22nd may 2009, two of us are flyfishers and will bring the flyrod.
So i was wondering if anybody has any experience with flyfishing in theese ereas? what kind of flies are to be used.
We make all our flies home so just tell me what to make and i can do it, but right now i have no clue what to make for the trip. what kind of small animals do the fish eat there, small fish? shellfish? small crabs? insects?
So please any tips would be very appritiated!
What kind of fish is the most usual to get when you fish from the rocky shoreline and the beaches?
as the sea is very salty there i recon that it is best to use superfast sinking flyline, and probably superfast polyleaders in addition to lead weighted flies? but wich flies? :-)
oh.... and last but not least, is there any freshwater fishing availiable in the cesme region?
any info about fishing is interesting, so just dump whatever you know :-)
I would be surpised if many has tried fly fishing. Most people float-fish bread or bits of fish or other meats. That's what I normally do. You'll find plenty of Sardines, Wrasse of various species, banded sea bream and odd mullet knocking about, but that's about all. If you did want to have a go with the fly rod, I would suggest wet flies that immitate other small fish or anything that shines / flashes / reflects. I can't remember the names of flies as it's 10 years since I worked in a tackle box and I only teach coarse fishing these days. Freshwater fishing in Turkey isn't a pursuit like it is other parts of europe so no, not much available. If you do a search for fishing on the Turkey forum, you'll find a few threads.

And we will try flyfishing, cus thats my life , hehe.
Tried 2 years ago in Kemer with not so much luck as we didnt know what kind of flies to bring, we have a little more knowledge now and i hope to catch something by the cliff shore. anyway, we get to do some casting, and thats allright :-)
Champ,
There are a few streams I know of in the Marmaris/Icmeler area that have trout in and I have seen them rise to real flies so maybe check out the Cesme area and you may find some there

Where abouts are they John? All the streams I've seen in the area didn't look 'trouty' to me and I would have thought water quantity and quality wouldn't be suitable for them. I'd like to have a nosey on up to them next time i'm in Icmeler if they aren't too far out of town. Is one of them on the road out of Marmaris when you're heading to the airport?
Darren
There is one just off the Datca road and also of course the river Azmak has plenty of trout in it and is crystal clear
Thanks John. I think I've seen the one off the Datca road, you pass that on the way to Defneli i think (where we go diving with ESS). I might stop and take a look then. Thanks for that.
sorry champ could not resist
