I recommend Stalis, it is by far the best, went there is 2005 and have booked up again for July 2007.

Loads of pubs and resturants . also good beach.

Do not go to malia very noisy, well I thought so.

Rethymnon is lovely but Chania is still my favourite and started my love affair with Greece.
Plenty of restaurants and not full of 18-30s as requested. Very nice Venetian harbour. Good bus service all along the North Crete motorway ... one of the Colonels' better ideas.
Splendid Agora and the best Turkish restaurant I know and I've been to lots of places in Turkey!

OK RP, give, where's the Turkish restaurant?? Then I'll tell you the best Greek restaurant in the old Town!!

Back to Crete for the umpteenth time in September - never know we might just be in Hania for a night....

There is a town beach West of the commercial harbour but I've never tried digging sandcastles there and a few scattered around the town but you do have the 80 km long Georgopoulis beach on the way to Iraklion if you need a bit more space.

If we do stop over in Hania, I'll check it out...if I can get past Portes on Portou!

Hania town beach is sandy, with an island off shore....but far too busy for me - better off getting the bus to Georgioupolis or Kalives or Almirida.
