Hi, i have already been to Turkey a few years ago, but we are looking at going again in July/Aug.
We went to Marmaris, and quite liked it, but maybe we want a change.
Could anyone advise us on the different resorts?
We would like a really nice beach, preferably like the very blue sea you see in holiday brochures of Turkey.
We'd also like it to be quite lively, but not over run with teenagers because we are going with our son who will be 6.
And lastly, could anyone advise about the cost of typical everyday things like drinks, food etc.
Thanks very much,
Nicola
Did you call into Icmeler when you were at Marmaris as that's a nice resort.
Hi, no we stayed in Marmaris, just really went to the beach and on trips, so didnt venture out too far.
The beautiful beach and blue sea you see in most of the brochures is probably Olu deniz. I haven't been there for many years but there are lots of people who could advise what it is like now.
have a look at my downloads it shows the area around olu deniz etc and there is alot of info on my web site as well
yes olu deniz is lovely especially the blue lagoon area, i gave it the
The Bodrum Peninsula is a lovely area to visit. It's only a short, 45 mins, transfer to the furthest point. As it's a peninsula, rather than a stretch of coast, it has lots of resorts along it's coast, each with their own harbours and beaches. You can visit them all during your stay. The best places to stay are on the northern coast ie Gumuslik, Yalikavak, Gundogan, Turkbuku, Torba. Best to rent a villa.
yes i agree The Bodrum Peninsula is very nice, and as always it comes down to personal tastes and requirements which is what makes this site so useful for the traveller to get honest reviews about places to vist
although the bodrum peninsula is nice most of the places we went to had very stoney and rocky beaches which my daughter didnt like, so she wouldnt go in the sea, i found it quite painful without beach shoes, so if you want a sandy beach be careful about this area, just depends what sort of beach you want, as you say you want a nice beach is that sandy or not ?
First, thanks very mucg for taking the time to reply
Right, i don't know if any resort will suit my requirments, but i am sure you lovely people will find the most suitable .
1)I would like a sandy beach, preferably with no pebbles and stones to hurt our feet.
2) I would like a resort which is quite lively, lots of restaurants and little places to drink as we tend to stay out until about 11pm with the little one, then we head back to our apartment or hotel and sit on the balcony having a drink.
3) Id like a resort where we are in the centre of the action, as we don't want to waste our time travelling, especially with having a child.
4) But, this is our most important requirment, we do not want to walk down the road and experience something like 'Magaluf'.
I would say a family resort, but then some one might interpret that as a quiet resort with nothing much to do.
I wouldnt say i am totally against going somewhere where teenagers go on club 18-30 holidays, but i wouldnt want to be in the middle if you know what i mean.
I will be so glad of all your comments, as i usually go to Goa, but we cannot take our son out of school during term time anymore, so we need to choose somewhere to go in July. August.
Thanks very much
P.S. We dont really fancy an all inclusive hotel, but if the price is right then it could be a possibility.
Im just looking for resort info at the moment, then once i have chosen a resort i will research apartments.
thanks again
Nicola
Its a good sized resort with plenty going on in the restuarants and bars but also very family orientated. The music all gets turned off at 12 as well . theres also a good choice of self catering and B+B there .
If you went to Olu Deniz you could stay somewhere like the Karbel Hotel, which is a B&B hotel that gets good reviews it is right in the heart of the resort, so you could get to all the bars, restaurants and shops. There are lots of nice restaurants and bars easily enough to keep you occupied for a fortnight. You could also get to the lagoon that had a sandy beach, although the main Belcekic Beach is sand and shingle, but is very nice. Its not a club 18-30 type place, more couples and families.
I walked round the Karbel when I was there in the summer and one of the good things about it is that it has a large swimming pool which would be nice for your children, which a lot of the smaller hotels there don't have.
Never been to Magaluf so cant do a comparison. It is a bit of a Brit resort insofar as it attracts mainly Brit tourists as opposeed to Russians and Germans, but I prefer this. Obvioulsy these are subjuctive judgements and I have heard others say it's too British whatever that might mean. I normally go AI and would rather not fight for my fair share of food so I like being around Brits.

Thanks very much you two , you have given me a lot to think about and research.
I know I'm biased, because I have a villa there, but Yalikavak would suit your requirements perfectly. Just beware of accommodation calling itself Yalikavak, which in theory it is, but that is actually on the surrounding hillsides.

madabouttravel shes just said she wants a sandy beach , i didnt see any in yalikavak when we were there last year, just rocky and shingly, unless there is somewhere we missed ?
I think you must have just gone to the main town beach. There are lots of beaches around Yalikavak bay.
Perfect for your requirements is Babadan Apartments in Icmeler(through Thomson or Direct with owner), there is a Discussion running on them, last post was April 3rd, 2008. These apartments also have a website.
have you thought of altinkum this ticks all your boxes.
I would agree with Ellie_Meg. Your six year old will love the beach at Akyaka, its perfect for kids that age. Wherever you choose even if it is a fairly quiet resort, there is usually still lots to do. The Turkish are very good at keeping you entertained, and catering for your every need. There's always lots of boat trips and other things to do if you get fed up lazing in the sun! Looking out the window at the miserable, wet, dull, cold weather I can't think of anything better!
I agree with Nuttynet - Altinkum is worth considering.
