Thanks for that. Am quite disappointed now but hey!

If anyone is able to give details as to where the White Dolphin has moved to that would be appreciated. Also any other really good fish restaurants to try would be good. We were chatting earlier about some posts I read about the fish market and restaurants in Fethiye so will try that as an alternative but any recommendations in Olu Deniz so we can drink lots of wine and walk home would be good!.

Cheers.

I have heard that the owners of the white dolphin have opened a restaurant on an island just in the bay of Fethiye. Obviously catering for the private yachts. Not sure if its possible to get there by trip/water taxi (I expect not). Will have to save up for that yacht.

fish is a big part of the turkish diet so there are lots of places to eat fish but the fish market in the evening is lovely and a large selection to choose from then pay £5 i think to get one of the restaurants to cook it for you yum yum :tup

Hi Wendy,

Yes, will have to put the pennies away for that yacht!! I did read on a post I happened across, from a woman who got married, that she had her reception at the White Dolphin. She arrived by motor boat so maybe there is a service to us lowly ones without the private yachts!!

Thanks Maverick too for your reply. Shall try out the market.......I do like to choose my fodder before i cook it!!!

Hi,

They have a water taxi service which leaves from the Ecesaray Marina to go to the Red Island Restaurant. You can contact them on (009) 0532 686 4 686 to book a table as well as your transfer.

Enjoy! :)

Thank you for that. My friends are out there in June when it will also be their daughters birthday. They said it would be a nice place to celebrate it.

Have you a rough idea what it could cost for a meal and wine for a party of 5?

Hi,

It would really depend on what kind of food you fancy - they have all the fresh seafood which they were famous for at the White Dolphin still which are expensive (but very very nice :) ) but when they set up this place they made a point of having other specialities such as chicken and meat dishes as well so its not just seafood here as it was at the White Dolphin. If you have a few courses and choose seafood dishes for all you would end up paying much more than the meat or chicken options. The cost of a bottle of wine starts from around £15 - £20 per bottle. They also make a small charge for the transfer as well. All in all, I would say for around £40 per person you can have a good meal with some nice wine and it really is worth it. This doesn't of course mean that it can't be done for any cheaper as it can, this is just an estimate.

Hello Hayal,

Thanks for all that. It does sound a really nice place to go for special occassions. We went to the White Dolphin four years ago but only had drinks as it was late, the views must have been stunning in the daytime,

We are thinking of Olu in the future and will definitely give the new restaurant a try.

Thanks, Barbara

You're welcome Barbara. I loved the White Dolphin too, it really was a special place and although it is a shame that it is not there anymore, the hotel they built instead of the restaurant is also amazing, although it is really expensive so its more suitable for a special occassion such as a honeymoon than a regular holiday. The Red Island is also a really nice place and it is really an experience that you will remember for a long time.

I was lucky enough to go to the red island last october.
The water taxi is quick and painless, if you are going late in the season bring something to wrap yourselves in as it can get quite cold late in the evening, they provided blankets on the island but took them back when you left.
Don't panic when you see the walk up the side of the island as they have a little lift in the shape of a boat to take you up.
The fish/meal was stunning, they don't have a menu as they will only cook what they can get on the day.
Do try and get to the island for the sunset as it so spectacular.
The night we went there was only about 10 people, it was quite wonderful just like having your own private island.
The service was superb, but saying that we have never had a bad experiance in turkey.
I have just booked to go back to Olu Deniz in October and the red island is on the to do list.
One thing you should know the mossies on the island are so bad they provide repellant and have repellant candles by your table, we used the repellant provided and didn't get bitten, the mossies did come in for a bite before we started to used it, though they did seem to be quite hungry maybe because its an island this is just something you should bare in mind maybe to bring your own with you.
In my mind this has got to be one of the best places in the world for a special night out, the atmosphere is magical as you look out to sea with the moon reflecting off it.

That sounds really great even with mossies for company.

I am definitely looking into going there before too long. My friends are out there in June and I have told them all about it.

What would be the best way to get to Fethye from Olu....taxi or dolmus? They are staying im the Belceskiz Beach Resort, their first time in Olu.

I will be in Kalkan in June, would it be too long a journey for us to get to Red Island... or wait until we stay in Olu?

Thanks

hi barb i would say going get the dolmus but comming back could be after 12 so it would have to be a cab but there are always plenty
to do red island from kalkan i would say stay over night in fethiye or an area around there i.e ovacik, hisaronu or even olu, tasika or fethiye town ,calis, one night bed and turkish breakfast should be around 12 qiud per room

Although its really easy to get to Fethiye by dolmus from Oludeniz, when going to the Red Island I would definitely take a taxi. At the end of the day, it will be a special occassion and you will all be dressed up and although the actual ride on the dolmus is fine, there is quite a bit of a walk between where you get dropped off and the Ecesaray Marina, where the speedboats will be waiting to pick you up. It would take you around 20 minutes if you are not a particularly fast walker. You can take a second dolmus for that bit but in the end I think it just wouldn't be worth it.

Thank you both for the information. Yes it would be best to take a taxi as it sounds quite a walk and as you say, it would be a special occassion, so go the whole hog!!!!

Does anyone know if the red Island does meat other than fish? I am looking for a really special restaurant for our anniversary this year, but neither of us eat fish!
If they don't - any other restaurant recomendations? We will be staying in Olu Deniz, but are happy to catch a taxi/dolmus if necessary.
Thanks

Yes they do have meat and chicken dishes as well as fish at the Red Island.
