I was at the Hotel Riviera last summer and I have to agree it really could do with a refurb. While talking to guests at the hotel who have been year after year they did say that they had heard that it was supposed to close for a refurb every winter and it had never happened. Lets hope it's not the case and has had a refurb.

We are going to the Riviera Hotel in about 5 weeks and I was wondering if anyone has been recently.I know the area well but I have not stayed at this hotel. Most comments are very good but I was wondering if the room refurbishment has been completed yet.The state of the rooms seemed to be the main complaint, but I know some have been refurbished but I don't know if all of them have.I would also like to know if there is a fridge in the rooms or if it possible to hire one. Some websites say there is a mini bar in the room but others do not mention one.

Hi

When I was there last year I sent an email to the Hotel requesting a fridge in my room. I had been told that there isn't enough fridges for every room and would be better to request one before I went. I can't remember how much it was but it was proper fridge that you would find in a kitchen so you could fit lots in it.

Enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the info Chelle.I will book a fridge on the wesite soon.I have missed out before at another hotel as there were none available on arrival.I asked Thompsons who I booked this holiday with with but they said they did not know if fridges were available, and to check on arrival. They said the only rooms with fridges were superior ones but they were all booked.
I hope someone will now let me know if the refurbishment is completed.

chelle, can you let me know how you managed to book a fridge.I sent them an email asking if I could hire one but they replied saying that I should ask at reception on arrival. They also said that they could not guarantee that one would be available, as they did not have enough for all the rooms.

We booked a fridge at time of booking with Portland. The problem with a fridge at this Hotel is to get in the room you have a swipe card not a key. To use the electricity in your room the swipe card needs to be inserted in a slot. Therefore when you remove it to go out of your room, as it is the key to enter your room electricity and then the fridge turns off. We got another card from reception to leave in the slot full time but the cleaners removed it and gave it to reception thinking we had locked ourselves out. So just be aware of this, the cleaners are very friendly so just make them know.

have a good holiday

The Riviera is part of the Med Playa group. Go to http://www.medplaya.com and you can book it there.

You will find telephone numbers, e mail addresses etc on the website.

Thanks for that but I dont think I bother booking direct.

Come out at E1700 for 10 nights for 2 people in Sept.Thats of course without flights.

Portland price is £1260 including flights.

Who says DIY is cheaper?

Well we have now booked this hotel and are wondering if we have done the right thing. On read reviews on various sites it seems that the hotel attracts a lot of elderly guests.I'm 51 and my wife 47,will we look out of place?Whilst not spring chickens we act and have a young outlook.

Also,I believe that gents have to wear long trousers in the dining room in the evenings-will smart jeans be allowed?

The Riviera policy is no kids, anyone under 16. It does attract older guests but there are that many bars etc on your doorstep that will provide younger entertainment I dont think you will be staying in too much.

As for the jeans I think they will be ok but to double check I would either send them an e mail or give them a call to be 100% sure. The e mail and numbers are on the med playa website.
