The investor group have withdrawn their plans to pump in more money and the unions have welcomed this decision. This does not look hopeful.
Guardian today
All this is very strange. It almost looks as if the unions and workforce want the airline to fail. Given they've now had several bail out packages, all of which have been rejected. While job cuts are inevitable and they want to protect the workforce as much as possible, losing some jobs has got to be better than the airline ceasing to exist. I was surprised they didn't accept the Air France / KLM deal, albeit they wanted to keep the national identity. Maybe they are holding out for a rescue package that isn't going to happen?
They have been like this for years! And every year Unfairly and against European law saved and bankrolled by the Italian government. It's about time it went for good! But as it's there only national carrier they might just break european law yet again lol.
Alitalia eventually sold 25% of the company to Air France/KLM.
