Well the airlines tell you that you're only allowed one piece of hand luggage per person and they set the size for it as well. Mind you, we fly to Turkey at least five times a year and I've always taken a piece of hand luggage within the size and also a small handbag to carry my important stuff. Maybe one day I'll get stopped so I make sure that there's enough room to stuff the handbag into the hand luggage (at a squeeze) but up to now I've never been asked to do that.
can you take water? to drink i mean?
i know there is some sort of ban on liquids ...
also medication, i take blood pressure tablets - should i put them in hand luggage or in suitcase? dont want to be accussed of drug smuggling!
You can put your medication in your hand luggage, thatis the best place to put it anyway as you will have it with you should anything happen to your suitcase.
Hi notnic ... for info and discussion on current hand luggage restrictions, please click on the link in my signature below. No need to read the whole topic (unless you want to) as page 1 contains details of latest restrictions.
I made sure there was room in my flight bag for my handbag just in case.I also had a carrier bag with our coats in.
Coming back from Bodrum we were allowed water. The cases went through security at the entrance and after check in the hand luggage was x rayed.I had 2 bottles of water that must have shown up but no one asked me to remove them.
i also had 2 bags on me yesterday they did not bother with the water we went through with them in our hand so we were not hiding anything, be careful with weights of luggage though as they are weighing all of your bags now, we had to pay £25 for 5 kilos over
The best place to find out about your Luggage and hand luggage is with the Airline or Tour operator you booked with, All Airlines have different policies with this issue.
The rep told me I couldnt take water through security,I did.
I dont think the travel companies are that up to date with what is and isnt allowed.
Technically, Thomson say only one piece of hand luggage per person on their flights. The airport (well Manchester at least) relaxed their rules to say a handbag as well - but with the rider that individual airlines could place their own restrictions. All the flights we have been on lately have stated one piece of hand luggage but I have taken a handbag as well. It's not reps that don't know, it's just that the airlines don't always apply the restrictions. As for the liquids through (at Bodrum at least) they have been saying for quite a while that they are going to stop allowing liquids through security (although they didn't make it clear which security point) but they haven't applied it yet so the reps have to warn you I suppose 'cos they could apply it any time - and no, I'm not a rep but just felt that the criticism was a little unfair as they have to warn you even though the restrictions are not always applied - not their fault!
I think the rules are 1 piece of hand luggage but they do often allow a handbag as well. I guess the travel companies are just covering themselves by quoting the rules. The same with the water restrictions in Turkey.
It seems to vary from airport to airport and airline to airline - my daughter and I recently had to fly from Edinburgh to Stansted and back. On the way down, people were being allowed more than one piece of hand luggage, but on the way back, the "one piece only" rule was being strictly enforced - even with laptops, etc.
Handluggage is supposed to be one piece only, within size restrictions, upto 5kg. If they want to they can add a ladys handbag into the weght allowance of 5kgs. If a plane is not full they always weigh hand baggage and are strict

So buy any liquids after security at the shops for the flight .
Hand luggage is not up to 5kgs, Both Easyjet and Ryanair allow you 10kg!
And only one piece of luggage is aloud, Eg handbags, Laptops, Goods purchased Airside must go into your bag, But again im saying all Airlines have their own rules with this issue, Dont listen to other's contact the Airline, It would have helped if the innitial poster stated what Airline they were flying with.
or take the HT way out and ask the HT RESIDENT experts in the flights forum
