Turkey is a great place to be adventurous in. I hear it is a little quiet there at the moment so for those who are happy to go it alone, get yourself a last minute flight, pack a backpack and just go. There are so many wonderful places off the beaten track. You can use public transport or hire a car. There is so much good accommodation available, I would just chance it and find something there. Haggle a little and you will still find some great bargains. Ask at any shop or restaurant and they will always know of someone with a spare room. Places I would recommend are on the Bozburun and Datca peninsulas. They are relatively undiscovered by Brits and have the most stunning scenery. For those who are just that little bit adventurous you will have a great time.
Sogut is lovely on the Bozburun and Datca is my favourite, a small harbour town. Venture down the peninsula a little further for a truly peaceful spot at Mesudiye or Palamut Buku. There are loads of pensions and small hotels.
Your post is definately food for thought. I really like the idea of just seeing what comes along. (Not sure I could be that adventurous though) You must have some great experiences.
i have been to bozburun and selimiye and they are gorgoeus places with breathtaking scenery on route , i will visit datca now they have improved the road to it. i love seeing the real turkey more than the real touristy places
Dadoronron as long as you have a sense of humour you would enjoy it. If you find you are staying in a place you don't like much you can just move on the next day. The road to Datca is fine now, in fact I think I preferred it when it wasn't lol!! You can get there by public bus from Dalaman airport to Marmaris and then another bus from Marmaris. If you want to go in style, a taxi from the airport to Datca is around £90ish pounds but you can try haggling. Car hire is available for around £20 a day. If you were feeling very adventurous you could try camping, there are some great camp sites in the most beautiful places.
