Hi I am looking for a holiday in Jan for a surprise for my hubbys birthday. I have got a great price for all of my family at Louis Pathenon but dont know what the weather is like in January we would be going on the 5th or 6th for 1 week. Can anyone please please help.
Thanks
Bev
Decemeber/January are about as much into winter for the med as you will get ! This means its going to be a lot cooler than peak season, but you should still get some bright sunshine. However you will also stand a good chance of rain as well. Typcially its between about 6°C and 16°C around that time of year so pack a light raincoat and some jumpers/cardigans...(it will be a lot warmer and drier than it is in the UK whatever happens ! )
Make sure the hotel has heating because you will need it. I go every January and it is cold ,sometimes in the sunshine it can be warmish and layers are best through the day, winter clothes for night time, it is cold.
If you are in a hotel with heating and a heated indoor pool you should be fine and the days are lighter and longer than here in the UK, that in itself is a bonus, especially when the sun shines.
I like this time of year, now that I go prepared.
If you want to sunbathe, find a sheltered spot from around 10.30am and you will be okay till about 2pm, when it starts to cool quite quickly.
It will be dark by 5pm.
We go to Malta for a week each February to catch up with my parents whilst they are there on holiday and we find the temperatures in Malta are always a few degrees cooler than our home in Cyprus.
Last winter was one of the worst we've had since arriving in Limassol in March 2004. We had more rain this time and the winter seems to have lasted a long time, instead of the usual couple of months from mid Jan till early March.
Summer came very quickly though, it's been boiling hot since June and the humidity has been in full force!
