Me and my husband drove to Czech for a long weekend and as we both smoke, we bought 3200 cigarettes. On our way back to the UK we were stopped by German customes asking if we are taking any cigarettes with us so we admited 3200 as we thought it is the allowance.
After they kept us in for 3,5 hours they then advised us that we are only allowed 200 cigarettes each and that we will have to pay tax. Also they could not speak nearly a word english and it was very difficult to communicate with them.
Anyway to cut long story short, they confescated all our cigarettes and fined us 250 euro each payable to their account within 10 days.
I think that they should not have the right to do that as we did not buy this in Germany and we were taking this to the UK.
Also I do not understand why should we pay tax for something we dont even have as it was taken from us.
If anyone knows anything or have similar experience, please let me know as I think we have just been genuinly robbed by the Germans
