Hi there
Please can someone give me an idea of jabs required / advised for Gambia so I'm not "had"
Thanks
When we went to Gambia the jabs we had were Yellow Fever, Hep A, Typhoid, Diptheria/Tetanus/Polio and Meningitis and of course without saying Malaria Tablets.
Angie
Angie's list looks right but you should always see your doctor for the most up to date info.
I can see this is going to cost! lol!
They're trying to get me to have a Rabies jab too .... think my Polio and Meningitis jabs are up to-date ...
Thanks for your help
We have just had our jabs at the GPs, we had exactly the same as Angie advised. We had to have 3 in one - polio, diptheria and tetanus even though up to date with tetanus as they said we couldnt have the other 2 individually. The only one we had to pay for is Yellow Fever - £50 each and our malaria tablets of course.
Yes Alfie is correct nothing to pay for us either except Yellow Fever and of course your Malaria tablets. But do see your Practise Nurse or Dr. Rabies jab we were told was only needed if you are staying 6 months or longer.
Thank you everyone ... booked in at GP's Friday - I know what I should have now, thanks!
My mum was conned into the rabies jab too, but they didn't even mention it to me, and i was taking 3 children. I have never heard of rabies problems in the Gambia.
We never had the rabies jab as this is not necessary at resorts, care to be taken when out and about with dogs and cats roaming outside the resort.
I noticed that some of you mentioned the menningitis jab.....I have talked to my practice nurse about what's needed for Gambia and she didn't mention this at all so i was wondering should I call back and ask her about it?
She wasn't sure if I needed the rabies jab and then decided i didn't as it's a beach holiday I am going for and just warned me to stay away from animals but now I am wondering will I be ok if I go to the Nature reserves to see the monkeys as i read somewhere that the ones near the exits approach and try to ambush you for food.
I am going in November so I will probably have a million more questions before then!

You might want to take a look at the following websites which provide health information for travelers and Physicians.
I must point out that it is always best to talk with your practice nurse or GP regarding any concerns that you have as they are best qualified to advise each individual.

Also ensure you are familiar with the current information from The Foreign & Commonwealth Office http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/travel-advice-by-country/sub-saharan-africa/gambia-the

As mentioned above I have already talked to the practice nurse about my holiday to Gambia. All she told me was that my vaccines are up to date except possibly rabies and only the fact that I happened to ask her how I do get the malaria tablets she would have forgotten to mention that I would need these (very worrying). So I always double check everything on here which is why I am asking if the others who posted above can give me some extra advice about the menningitis and rabies jabs before I go back to her.
I have also researched this on the fco and many other websites........just looking for a little clarification from ppl who have travelled to Gambia and I am most aware not to go soley by any advice from people here or other travel forums just incase anyone thinks I might be that daft!
