hi, i'm new to this forum so forgive me if these questions have been asked before as i'm sure they will have been.
we go to pdc next week, wife and myself, and really looking forward to it. in recent years we've been going to turkey and would normally take our spends in british currency and change it in the small supermarkets in the resort where they don't charge any commission. i know it's not the safest method of taking spending money, but we always hire a safety deposit box. question is, do we take sterling and change it in pdc, or take euros, or traveller's cheques and where is the best place to change cash or cheques?
i know nationwide card doesn't charge commission, but i don't have one and it's too close to our departure date now to open an account with them so will have to rule that option out, and i don't really want to use atm machines as they charge, so any help will be gratefully appreciated.
we are staying in the old town so really just need to know best place to change or just take euros with us. thanks in advance.
Hi and welcome on board
If I were you I would take maybe a 100 euros to see you through the first day until you get your money exchanged as I have found you get a better rate over there,I stayed in the new town so can't comment on where to change your money,I hope you have a good holiday as we love Lanzarote and we also stayed in PDC but was a couple of years ago
might do that. sorry for being a bit slow, but do you take cash or travellers cheques to change over there?
eg A Halifax VISA debit card will get you 1.14 e to the £ today but will charge you £1.50 per transaction. So as long as you take out a reasonable amount each time you can still save money.
It all depends on what card you do have and how much your bank charges per transaction.
Spanish banks don't charge for using the ATMs in my experience.
it would be a TSB visa debit card so my next mission is to find out how much they're gonna charge me per transaction.

When you use the ATM, answer no when it asks you if you want to be charged in GBP. If you say yes you will get the Spanish banks rate, say no and you will get the VISA rate.
Ask your bank before you go what their charge is.
You can check the VISA rate here When you use the ATM, answer no when it asks you if you want to be charged in GBP. If you say yes you will get the Spanish banks rate, say no and you will get the VISA rate.
Ask your bank before you go what their charge is.
thanks all for your help, think I'll take my debit card.
We got back yesterday. I took my Nationwide debit card as usual but I was only getting 1.09 euros to the £ via the ATMs. You're better off taking cash and locking it in the safe.
You need to say no when it asks you if you want to be charged in GBP, that's a mistake a lot of people make.
