Hi, We are planning a holiday to Sharmel Egypt,
Does anyone know if there are ramps for the scooter in the Tropicana Grand Azure hotel, it looks more like a village with pathways several hundred yards long it would be a marathon for me, but it has good reviews and would be great for the kids.
Also not having been before I don't know if the pavements outside are lowered for scooters, wheelchairs etc.
We also want to go to the pyramids, shopping in Cairo, and visit the museum there.
We would need to transport for 4 people + scooter.
I hope some-one can advise as my kids will be devastated if we cant go, they are doing there annual topic at school on Egypt and they cant wait to go.
Thanks

Are you aware that it will take around 6-7 hours by road to Cairo from Sharm each way? You would really need to stay over to manage to get a worthwhile experience of visiting the antiquities. By air would be better , but travelling back from Hurghada through Cairo to London disabled after an accident two years ago I had an absolute nightmare with zero help (despite flights being booked by my insurance company and medical needs specified in writing in advance). Lack of assistance in Cairo meant I then missed my connecting flight and I have vowed to avoid Egyptair at all costs after that particular experience.
Terrain around the pyramids is rough (no paths, gritty sand) but should be accesible with some care if your scooter is up to roughish terrain.. going into the pyramids will not be possible however with any sort of mobility restriction as passageways are sloped, steep and narrow (you have to stoop about 45 degrees to get through). The museum should be OK for a visit - there are definitely stairs but there is a lift inside. I'm sure someone can clarify that there is ramped access up to the museum from the road as there are 4-5 steps up as you enter the grounds.
It's the kids that want to do the pyramid's, I'll give it a miss, OH can take them.
After your info on the Cairo journey we are going to look for a fully escorted excursion staying 2/3 nights
taking in the places we want to see, we may also be able to go to the churches and markets if we stay 3 nights, I think I read somewhere that you can get a guide to take you the main market ? the only thing is we want to stay in the G Azure in sharm as it has a lot going for on for the kids, and it seems a bit daft paying to stay there 14 nights AI then paying to stay 3 nights in Cairo in the middle of the holiday, I don't think we're adventurous enough to plan a 2 centre holiday lol, the only time we have done that was cruise and stay, 3 days hotel 7 cruise then back to hotel for remaining 4 days, I'm not confident enough to go through Cairo airport and look for our hotel on our own, then go back to sharm,
bit of a wimp lol.
Thanks again Lynn
