Hi All
We are looking to re-visit Crete next year with my 81 year old Dad. We can get some cheapish flights to Heraklion so are looking for somewhere to stay in a 2-bedroon apartment. We would like somewhere which is not Hersonissos or Malia, somewhere with a bit of Greek character if poss, not Sky sports, karaoke and roast beef and yorkshire pud. Also we like a beach.
I was wondering if Panormos might be suitable. Don't know a lot about the place though. I would appreciate some info from anyone who has been there.
I am also open to suggestions of other suitable places. I have seen Piskopiano, Sissi, Kokkino Hani etc but don't know much about any of them.
Thanks in advance, Yiamass, Jean
have you looked at the crete resort reports to give you some idea ?
Sissi bay use to be fairly Greek with several nice taverner's overlooking the bay but that may have changed a bit [like most places] since we last went 6 yrs ago

You might consider Rethymnon. Provided you are near the town itself there is easy walking for Dad along the flat beachside road into the old town which has lots of character. Good bus links to other parts of the island for sightseeingand an excellent 'Blue Flag' beach.
I have just posted a report on Panormos and the surrounding area where we stayed this month. Have a look when it has been published.
