I must say its nothing I've ever noticed but ... when we last looked there was a bookies in Pernera fitted out with TV's etc.. on the road up out of Pernera towards Paralimni... (about the middle of this map http://wikimapia.org/#lat=35.0320082&lon=34.0350544&z=18&l=0&m=s&v=9 )

going up on the road where the Elamaris hotel is, pass the windmills, koumfokios, the shops and just end the end of that block it was called something lilke EUROCAL ????

I think that's one of the Eurogoal shops referred to in the above posting.

My dad is an avid racing fan and whilst in Limassol in November he found that Stanley Bet shops have computerised betting on UK racing and think they show the races on satellite tv. They seem to be island wide so may be worth looking out for one.

There are only certain betting shops allowed to place bets on horse racing as I understand it as there are a lot of local restrictions on gambling (ie - no brick & mortar casino's in the south of the island). There are a heavy number of "dodgy" internet casinos openly advertising their services but as far as I'm aware these are illegal.

We have horse racing in Nicosia and is said to be one of the prettiest racing venues in the Mediterranean. It certainly has some fantastic views over the mountains towards the north - it's almost on the crossing point at Ayios Dometios and well worth a day out. The horses run on sand and betting starts from €2.
