I knew we would have to change to a small coach as we went last year with Thomson.
After being on the coach for a while and dropping guests off at 2 hotels the driver and the rep couldnt find a certain hotel.
I asked the rep when were we going to be changed to a smaller coach and she informed me at the next hotel, the Voyage Torba.
When the driver eventually found the hotel we were put on a mini bus and transfered to Gumbet.
The whole journey took 2 hours 5minutes
One the way back we sat for exactly 1 hour outside some apartments at the end of the bar until the rep received a phone call.
We then picked up at lots of hotels and then changed buses on the outskirts of Gumbet. This whole journey took 2hors 20minutes
In hindsight we should have got a taxi as it was similar times last year but dont let the short distance think it is a short transfer time on a Thomas Cook or Thomson coach.
Never again.
I would recommend Icmeler, as it is situated in a beautiful bay,has the friendliest locals in any of the resorts I have been, has lots of lovely reasonable restaurants and bars and best of all the music is turned down at midnight.
The transfer is around 2hours but can be less if you arrive on a late flight. At least you dont have to faff on changing coaches.
If you get a private transfer from Bodrum airport to Gumbet it will take 45 minutes.
Would agree with Jaytrip about transfers, if you book with a tour operator it's usually much better to arrange your own private transfer.
Çeşme is a fairly laid-back resort, far away from the 18-30's type of holiday. But there are shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets, ancient sites nearby, daily boat trips to Aegean bays and islands, thermal pools and mud baths and the town still has a Turkish 'feel' about it, with some of the streets (especially behind the Genoese Castle) hardly changed in decades.
Let me know if I can help further. I admit to some bias as we have lived in this lovely spot now for over 13 years!
dalyan is friendly ,,laid back, charming, pretty ,plenty to do and see.it isnt overly touristy so for children and teenagers it may not be suitable.the transfer from dalaman to dalyan is approx 30 minuites.alternativly icmeler is fun it isnt as charming as it once was but the atmopsphere and service in general is first rate,it there is also a seductive quality about the place with most guests returning at least once.the only drawback is the transfer time which can be anything from 45mins to 2.5 hours a taxi from the airport is costly at 140 lire around 65 quid but sometimes if you are on a night flight it can be an expensive relief.travel republic offer good deals and good shuttle transfers that work out around 20 quid per person.calis beach is also fairly near to the airport it is nice enough with lots of bars on the promanade but is a tad shabby in places however it does have a nice feel to it.
The journey from the airport to our hotel was over 2 hours, and we had the worst hotel imaginable (Hotel Daisy, Ladies beach Oh my life... what a hovel)!!!! We vowed we would NEVER return to Turkey, but changed our minds just 2 years later, when we stayed in Oludeniz. The transfer from the airport was just 45 minutes.
We are going back to the same region in September, staying in Ovacik.
I must admit, we prefer to go to Lassi in Kefalonia, which is just the most convenient place we've ever stayed. Gorgeous place, but only a 10 minute drive from the airport. Pity Greece has the euro though!
Would be interested to hear your views on your return from Ovacik as our family are booked to go there 2011. We will stay in Ovacik for 3 week so any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.
Enjoy your holiday!
My next door neighbour has just come back from Ovacik. (Predikia hills family resort hotel, where we have also booked)
She tells me it's absolutely lovely, but not for anyone who likes it rowdy, as it's just a small resort, although it's just a short distance from Hisaronu, and Oludeniz. (it suits us as we like peace and quiet).
I was also told to book tours and boat trips on-line from Carole and Tayfun. I can't post a link yet, as I'm new on site, but my neighbour had the most amazing time, and saved a fortune with their tours and trips. We have booked loads on their safe website. The sunset cruise comes highly recommended. It's through seeing my neighbours photo's, and hearing about her holiday that made us decide on ours.
I will let you know when we get back.
Will look forward to hearing about Ovacik when you get back. I have visited Hisaronu, Olu Deniz, Fethiye but on day visits only whilst staying in other resorts.
Leaving on Wednesday for a 3 week stay in Marmaris. We are staying in Armutulan area which is really nice. Our accomodation is in a quietish residential part but its near shops, bars/restaurants etc. We love it there and as you say each to their own!!!
OOPS! Going off topic here!
Thanks again for the info.
